Abstract
An attempt has been made on “Evaluation of gerbera (Gerbera jamesonii L.) varieties for pot culture under naturally ventilated polyhouse” during the year 2013-14 in polyhouse progressive farmer in Gokak. The experiment was laid out in the completely randomized block design with three replications and eight as treatments. The gerbera varieties have shown significant result for growth, yield, quality and incidence of pest and diseases. The cv. Amlet and cv. Marinilla were superior with respect to growth parameters like plant height (72.66 cm), number of leaves (50.38), plant spread (83.67) and number of suckers (10.33). The cvs. Natasha, Sunway, Salvanore and Rainigrow took minimum days for 50 per cent flowering while Salvonore and Marinilla took minimum days for flower development. The cv. Marinilla (213.13) and cv. Natasha (194.89) were identified as good yield in terms of number of flower plant (213.13) and for quality parameters in terms of stalk diameter, flower diameter and vase life, varieties Marinilla, Elite, Shimmder and Amlet were found superior. Varieties Marinilla (3:13), Natasha (2:78) were having B:C ratio. Varieties Marinilla, Natasha, Shimmer has emerged as promising varieties with respect to growth, flowering, flower yield and quality and higher B:C (3:13) ratio and can be recommended for commercial cultivation.
