Abstract
The present investigation was ‘Studies on Phenotypic Characters and Feeding Management Pattern of Goats in Jalna District’. Where the groups were 61.00, 11.20, 17.30, 3.50 and 7.00 per cent goats for entire black and homed goats, entire black and polled goats, entire black and homed goats with white spots on the ears, entire black, polled goats with white spotted ears and Brown and white patches on body and other mixed coat colour pattern, respectively. The coat colour pattern was observed as 72.90, 22.50 and 4.60 per cent for black, black and white and other colour goats, respectively. Whereas, ear pattern recorded in the present study was 98.90 for pendulous ear and 1.10 for horizontal ear orientation. Among these goats, 85.00 per cent goats were found homed and 15.00 per cent were polled. The LSMs for HW of goats at 0-3 months of age were 39.19 + 0.32cm, CG as 38.71 + 0.29cm, BL as 36.08 ± 0.31cm, EL as 11.07 ± 0.07cm, HL as 0.42 ± 0.02 cm and for BW as 5.89 ± 0.10 kg, respectively. The LSMS for HW of goats at 4-6 months of age was 48.73 + 0.54cm, CG as 50.71 ± 0.29cm, BL as 48.60 ± 0.42 cm, EL as 12.68 ± 0.13 cm, HL as 3.00 + 0.15 cm and for BW as 13.90 + 0,22 kg, respectively. The LSMS for HW goats at 7-12 months of age was 58.61 + 0.50 cm, CG as 62,13 + 0.34 cm, BL as 62.26 + 0.42 cm, EL as 14.50 + 0.16 cm, HL as 4.08 ± 0.22 cm and for BW as 19.24 ± 0.16 kg, respectively. The LSMS for HW of goats at 7-12 months of age was 58.61 ± 0.50 cm, CG as 62.13 ± 0.34 cm, BL as 62.26 ± 0.42 cm, EL as 14.50 ± 0.16 cm, respectively. The LSMs for HW of goats at 13.36 months of age was 68.73 + 0.69 cm, CG as 72.60 ± 0.58 cm, BL as 66.45 _ 0.63 cm, EL as 16.84 ± 0.16 cm, HL as 11.41 ± 0.41 cm and for BW as 30.89 + 0.69 kg, respectively. The LSMs for HW of goats above 36 months of age was 67.64 + 0.46 cm, CG as 72.58 + 0.30 cm, BL as 67.61 + 0.51 cm, EL as 17.14 + 0.13 cm, HL as 8.69 ± 0.12 cm and for BW as 29.73 ± 0.60 kg. The study of goats revealed that there is positive significant and negative non significant correlation between weight gain and body measurements in all age groups. It can be concluded from the study that geo-ecological situation of surveyed area and management practices followed their play importance role in phenotypic characteristics of animal.
