Abstract
Present investigation entitled “Survey for identification of superior kagzilime
(Citrus aurantifolia. Swingle.) clones in Bagalkot district of Karnataka” was under
taken to evaluate the seedling progenies of acid lime in two seasons during May 2014
to May 2016, based on thin rind, large fruit size, less seeds and higher productivity
during summer. During the survey work a total of 35 well maintained orchards from
different villages were selected, and each orchard was treated as one treatment, seven
orchards from Kaladagi (T1 – T7), four orchards from Chicksanshi (T8 – T11), five
orchards from Devanal (T12 – T16), nine orchard from Sokkanadagi (T17 – T25), four
orchards from Govindkoppa (T26 - 29), two orchards from Sunaga (T30 –
T31), one orchard from Anagavadi (T32), one orchard from Shiraguppi (T33) and two
orchards from Bhudihal (T34 – T35).
Among the treatments, the maximum tree height (4.31 m) was recorded in
T34 while T21 registered the highest trunk diameter (42.79 cm) at 20 cm from the
ground level. The maximum number of primary branches (7.67) was recorded in T22
while the highest leaf area (21.47 sq.cm) was recorded in T14. The highest number of
fruits (1783.34/plant) and fruit yield (74.02 kg/plant) was recorded in T14 while T32
was recorded higher fruit weight (45.77 g) and juice weight (20.37 g). The maximum
fruit volume (44.61 ml), juice volume (20.39 ml), fruit equator diameter (4.09 cm),
and fruit polar diameter (4.14cm) was recorded in T14.
The fruit shape was varied from round to oval. The maximum fruit shape
index (1.14) was recorded in the T33. The maximum fruit size (16.91 sq.cm) was
recorded in the T14. The highest specific gravity (1.02) was recorded in the T17, while
the minimum rind thickness (0.70 cm) was recorded in the T28. The minimum
number of seeds per fruit (7.86) was recorded in the T35, whereas the maximum
number of segments (11.43) was recorded in the T10. Among the qualitative characters
the higher total soluble solids (8.25 0 Brix) was recorded in the T17 and the maximum
titrable acidity (8.45%) was recorded in the T17. The highest ascorbic acid (36.80
mg/100 ml juice) was recorded in the T19.
The best treatments (orchards) 14, T17, T32, and T33 are identified in the
present study. Hence seeds from these orchards can be collected, and evaluated in
replicated trails for further study.
