Abstract
The field investigation was carried out during the year 2015-16 in the
farmer’s field at Tulisigere, near Gaddanakeri cross of Bagalkot Taluk and District,
Karnataka state to study the influence of de-navelling and bunch stalk feeding on
bunch parameters and quality of banana cv. Grand Naine. The banana bunch stalk
were fed with dipping the cut end in the cow dung slurry and 100ml water, dipping
the cut end in the cow dung slurry and 100ml water and ammonium sulphate (05, 10,
15and 20g) and dipping the cut end in the cow dung slurry and 100ml water and
ammonium sulphate + sulphate of potash (05+05, 10+7.50, 15+10 and 20+12.50g)
and compared with control ie. Male bud retention on the bunch till harvest (without
bunch stalk feeding). The experiment was laid out in a completely randomized block
design with ten treatments, which were replicated thrice.
The results revealed that, the bunch stalk fed with dipping the cut end in the
cow dung slurry + 100ml of water+ 15g of ammonium sulphate and 10g of SOP
recorded significantly highest internodal length (8.66 cm), bunch length (84.54 cm),
finger length (19.52 cm), finger girth (14.07 cm), finger weight (193.50 g), hand
weight (3.70 kg), bunch weight (34.47 kg), total yield (106.90 t/ha), pulp weight
(113.12 g), peel weight (41.62 g), pulp to peel ratio (2.72), benefit cost ratio (2.69:1),
texture (3.68kg/cm2), more number of days taken to develop colour (12.33 days),
total soluble solids (21.79 0Brix), total sugar (17.58 %) and ascorbic acid
(6.80mg/100g).
Overall, the banana bunches fed with dipping the cut end in the cow dung
slurry + 100ml of water+ 15g of ammonium sulphate and 10g of SOP improved the
yield and quality parameters of banana cv. Grand Naine in northern dry zone of
Karnataka.
