Abstract
The present investigation was carried out at College of Horticulture ( Haveli Farm), Bagalkot, during rabi season of the year 2015-16 to identify the high yielding fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) genotypes suitable for Northern dry zone of Karnataka and to estimate the variability for growth and yield components. All the 17 genotypes which are selected for the experiment varied significantly with respect to growth, yield and yield attributing characters. Among tested genotype the DFC-17 was found superior with respect to growth parameters, yield characters of yield (8.31q/ha), the phenotypic coefficient of variance (PCV), genotypic coefficient of variance (GCV) were maximum for the number of pods per plant (20.31 and 19.70) and plant spread at 90 DAS per plant (20.27 and 19.60 ). The estimation of Heritability and genetic advance over mean were highest for plant height at 90 DAS (96.55 and 16.48), number of pods per plant (93.58 and 39.27), plant spread at 90 DAS (93.52 and 39.06) and yield per plant (79.06 and 25.07). The plant character plant height at 90 DAS found positive and significantly correlated with seed yield per plant at genotypic and phenotypic levels (0.622 and 0.544). In path analysis it is revealed that plant height at 90 DAS (2.690) having high positive direct effect on seed yield of fenugreek. Existence of high variability, wide variation between PCV and GCV coupled with moderate to low heritability and genetic advance of both additive and non additive interaction may be exploited for further breeding programme.
