Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda

Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda has been established as a full-fledged State University, having unique honour of being the “First Agricultural University of Bundelkhand Region”. The University was notified vide Government Order No. 301/79-V-1-10-1 (Ka) 27-2009 Lucknow and established on 2nd March 2010 under Uttar Pradesh Agriculture University Act (Sanshodhan) 1958 Gazette-Adhiniyam 2010. Initially it was named as “Manyawar Shri Kanshiram Ji University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda”, which was changed as “Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda” vide Uttar Pradesh Agriculture University Act (Sanshodhan) Adhiniyam, 2014, No. 1528(2)/LXXIX-V-1-14-1(Ka)-13-2014 dated 4th December 2014. The University has been established for the development of the agriculture and allied sectors in the Uttar Pradesh on the whole and Bundelkhand region in particular. It is committed to serve the Bundelkhand region with trinity concept, i.e. complete integration of teaching, research and extension for the development of agriculture and allied sectors in order to ensure food security and enhance socio-economic status of inhabitants. State Government of Uttar Pradesh has assigned the University with the responsibilities of (a) human resource generation and development, (b) generation and perfection of technologies, and (c) their dissemination to the farmers, orchardists and dairy farmers in the Chitrakoot Dham and Jhansi divisions. The Chirtrkoot Dham Division consists of four districts, namely Banda, Chitrakoot (Karvi), Mahoba and Hamirpur whereas Jhansi Division consists of Jhansi, Lalitpur and Jalaun (Orai) districts.

    “Performance of Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) varieties under conventional tillage and zero tillage in rainfed condition.”

    The experiment was conducted in split plot design at College Research Farm of BUAT, Banda during rabi season of 2021-22. The experiment's overall goal was to determine the best tillage technique for chickpea crops in order to maximize production, increase profitability, and identify varieties of chickpeas that are genetically more productive for this area. The experiment consists two main factors in main plot with four level of each in sub-plot treatment. Total combinations of treatment were eight and each treatment was replicated at four time. The main plot consisted of the tillage practices namely, zero tillage and conventional tillage. Further each main plot had divided in to four sub-plots held four chickpea varieties i.e., IPC-2006-77, IPC-2005-62, IPC-11-112 and IPC-2004-01. The soil in which experiment conducted was silty clay and their pH value 7.55, EC 0.55 dSm-1 and total organic carbon was 0.45%. The observation of quantitative and qualitative attributes of chickpea were recorded as per schedule. During the field study it was observed that the highest growth attributes i.e., plant population, plant height, total no. of branches, dry matter accumulation, total no. of root nodule, and maximum yield attributes i.e. no. of pods plant-1 , no. of grain pods-1 , seed index and higher profitability in terms of economic return were recorded under the zero-tillage practice employed to the chickpea. Soil bulk density, soil compactness was recorded maximum in conventional tillage while water holding capacity and porosity was recorded higher in zero tillage. Among the chickpea varieties, IPC-2006-77 produced maximum growth, yield (economic yield and biological yield) and also economic return (gross return, net return). Among all interaction of tillage and varieties, the zero-tillage practice along with IPC-2006-77 produced maximum output, more remunerative and this combination practically feasible and economically viable to production of chickpea.
