Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda

Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda has been established as a full-fledged State University, having unique honour of being the “First Agricultural University of Bundelkhand Region”. The University was notified vide Government Order No. 301/79-V-1-10-1 (Ka) 27-2009 Lucknow and established on 2nd March 2010 under Uttar Pradesh Agriculture University Act (Sanshodhan) 1958 Gazette-Adhiniyam 2010. Initially it was named as “Manyawar Shri Kanshiram Ji University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda”, which was changed as “Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda” vide Uttar Pradesh Agriculture University Act (Sanshodhan) Adhiniyam, 2014, No. 1528(2)/LXXIX-V-1-14-1(Ka)-13-2014 dated 4th December 2014. The University has been established for the development of the agriculture and allied sectors in the Uttar Pradesh on the whole and Bundelkhand region in particular. It is committed to serve the Bundelkhand region with trinity concept, i.e. complete integration of teaching, research and extension for the development of agriculture and allied sectors in order to ensure food security and enhance socio-economic status of inhabitants. State Government of Uttar Pradesh has assigned the University with the responsibilities of (a) human resource generation and development, (b) generation and perfection of technologies, and (c) their dissemination to the farmers, orchardists and dairy farmers in the Chitrakoot Dham and Jhansi divisions. The Chirtrkoot Dham Division consists of four districts, namely Banda, Chitrakoot (Karvi), Mahoba and Hamirpur whereas Jhansi Division consists of Jhansi, Lalitpur and Jalaun (Orai) districts.

    Effect of foliar spray of plant growth regulators and micronutrients on growth, fruit yield and quality of acid lime (Citrus aurantifolia Swingle) cv. Ganganagar Lime– 1.

    The investigation was carried out during 2020-21 at the experimental orchard, Department of Fruit Science, Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda to find out the effect of foliar spray of plant growth regulators and micronutrients on growth, fruit yield and quality of acid lime (Citrus aurantifolia Swingle) cv. Ganganagar Lime – 1. The experiment was set up in RBD having 10 treatments with 3 replications which were treated with different concentrations of growth regulators and micronutrients i.e. T1 - Control (water spray), T2 - GA3 (75 ppm) + NAA (100 ppm), T3 - ZnSO4 (1%) + FeSO4 (1%), T4 - GA3 (75 ppm) + ZnSO4 (1%), T5 - GA3 (75 ppm) + FeSO4 (1%), T6 - NAA (100 ppm) + ZnSO4 (1%), T7 - NAA (100 ppm) + FeSO4 (1%), T8 - GA3 (75 ppm) + ZnSO4 (1%) + FeSO4 (1%), T9 - NAA (100 ppm) + ZnSO4 (1%) + FeSO4 (1%) and T10 - GA3 (75 ppm) + NAA (100 ppm) + ZnSO4 (1%) + FeSO4 (1%). Among the plant growth attributes, the maximum increment in trunk girth (3.55 cm) was recorded with the treatment T8 - GA3 (75 ppm) + ZnSO4 (1%) + FeSO4 (1%) and maximum leaf area (24.56 cm2 ) was observed with the treatment T9 NAA (100 ppm) + ZnSO4 (1%) + FeSO4 (1%). Whereas the maximum initial fruit set (75.04 %), final fruit set (53.66 %), yield (10.01 kg per plant) and minimum fruit drop (22.85 %) were observed with the treatment T10 - GA3 (75 ppm) + NAA (100 ppm) + ZnSO4 (1%) + FeSO4 (1%). The other fruit quality attributes like maximum average fruit weigh (28.39 g), fruit length (41.26 mm), fruit width (40.51mm), TSS (7.2 ºBrix), juice percentage (52.73 %), ascorbic acid (30.20 mg/100g), total sugars (1.66 %), reducing sugars (0.88 %) and non reducing sugars (0.78 %) were also recorded with the treatment T10 - GA3 (75 ppm) + NAA (100 ppm) + ZnSO4 (1%) + FeSO4 (1%). While, the maximum titratable acidity (6.81 %) was recorded with the treatment T9 - NAA (100 ppm) + ZnSO4 (1%) + FeSO4 (1%) and minimum rind thickness (1.66 mm) were found with the treatment T8 - GA3 (75 ppm) + ZnSO4 (1%) + FeSO4 (1%). On the basis of the results of foliar spray of plant growth regulators and micronutrients on growth, fruit yield and quality of acid lime under Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh, the spray of GA3 (75 ppm) + NAA (100 ppm) + ZnSO4 (1%) + FeSO4 (1%) can be recommended to the farmers and researchers to obtain maximum fruit yield and good fruit quality in Ganganagar Lime -1 cultivar of acid lime.

    Effect of plant growth regulators on rooting, growth and survival of semi-hardwood cutting in pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) cv. Bhagwa

    The present investigation entitled “Effect of plant growth regulators on rooting growth and survival of semi-hardwood cutting in Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) cv Bhagwa” was conducted at Fruits nursery, Department of Fruit Science, college of Horticulture, Banda University of Agriculture & Technology, Banda - 210001 (U. P.) during the year 2020-21. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Block Design with 9 treatments and 3 replications. The minimum number of days taken to first sprouting (10.26 days). The average total sprouted cuttings (89.30%) diameter of shoot (6.75 mm), shoot length of cutting (24.70 cm) at 90 DAP, number of leaves per cutting (5.66, 6.80, 9.96) at 30,60,90 DAP respectively, fresh weight of shoot (11.19 g) and dry weight of shoot (5.47 g) at 90 DAP was recorded in treatment T4- IBA 1000 ppm. The maximum rooting percentage of cutting (84.32) at 90 DAP respectively. The length of root of cutting (10.80 cm, 18.16 cm, 27.15 cm), average number of roots per cutting (20.19, 24.53, 37.52) at 30, 60 and 90, DAP respectively. The fresh weight of root (1.39 g), dry weight of root (0.76 g), survival percentage of cutting (90.54 %) at 90 DAP respectively was recorded under the treatment IBA- 1000 ppm. Therefore, it is concluded that the application of IBA-1000 ppm shows the best result for all parameters like, days taken to first sprouting, total sprouted cutting, shoot diameter and length, numbers of leaves par cutting, fresh and dry weight of shoot, rooting percentage of cutting, length of roots, fresh and dry weight of roots, survival percentage of cutting and number of roots per cutting. This research has been recognized as practical application by nursery man of pomegranate for preparation of better quality planting materials along with better survivability. The work has both academic as well as practical significance and it will help to farmers for establishment of pomegranate nursery resulting in generate the farmer’s income.

    STUDIES ON FOLIAR APPLICATION OF PLANT GROWTH REGULATORS AND NUTRIENTS ON FRUIT SET AND QUALITY OF BER (Ziziphus mauritiana Lamk.) UNDER BUNDELKHAND REGION OF UTTAR PRADESH

    The present investigation entitled “Studies on foliar application of plant growth regulators and nutrients on fruit set and quality of ber (Ziziphus mauritiana Lamk.) under Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh” was carried out during 2020-21 at Horticulture Instructional Farm, Department of Fruit Science, College of Horticulture, Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda 210001, (UP). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Block Design with 12 treatments. The treatments were applied in three replications. Among the fruit set & yield significant differences for percent of initial fruit set with the application of different concentration of plant growth regulators and nutrients. Maximum initial fruit set, final fruit set and average fruit yield was recorded with the application of T10 (GA3 50 ppm + NAA 30 ppm + KNO3 2%). Among the physical attributes of fruit significantly maximum fruit length and fruit width was measured with the application of T10 (GA3 50 ppm + NAA 30 ppm + KNO3 2%). Highest fruit weight and fruit volume was noted with the application of T10 (GA3 50 ppm + NAA 30 ppm + KNO3 2%). The perusal of the data reveals that the specific gravity and pulp weight showed statistically trends. Maximum specific gravity and pulp weight was achieved with T10 (GA3 50 ppm + NAA 30 ppm + KNO3 2%). Among the treatments, maximum seed weight was recorded with T1 (control). The maximum pulp/stone ratio was found with the application of treatment T10 (GA3 50 ppm + NAA 30 ppm + KNO3 2%). Among the chemical attributes of fruit significantly maximum total soluble solids content was recorded inT10 (GA3 50 ppm + NAA 30 ppm + KNO3 2%). Maximum protein was recorded with T10 (GA3 50 ppm + NAA 30 ppm + KNO3 2%. Maximum reducing sugar, non-reducing sugar and total sugar content was observed with treatment T10 (GA3 50 ppm + NAA 30 ppm + KNO3 2%). Lowest ascorbic acid and titratable acidity content was recorded in T10 (GA3 50 ppm + NAA 30 ppm + KNO3 2%), while highest ascorbic acid in (T7) Urea (2%) and titratable acidity was observed in (T6) MOP (2%). Therefore, It is concluded that the application of GA3 50 ppm + NAA 30 ppm + KNO3 2% is the best combination for improving fruit set, reducing fruit drop and improving quality attributes and fruit yield of ber cv. Thai Apple and the same can be recommended to ber fruit growers and researchers.

    Studies on the effect of growth hormones on growth, rooting and survival of hardwood cuttings of fig (Ficus carica L.) under different growing conditions

    The investigation was carried out during 2020-2021 on the propagation of fig through hardwood cuttings at Instructional farm, Department of Fruit Science, Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda to find out the effect of IBA and NAA on growth, rooting and survival of hardwood cuttings of fig (Ficus carica L.) under different growing conditions. The experiment was set up in RBD (factorial) having thirty cuttings with three replications which were treated with different concentrations of growth hormones i.e. T1 (IBA 1000 ppm), T2 (IBA 2000 ppm), T3 (NAA 1000 ppm), T4 (NAA 2000 ppm), T5 (IBA 1000 ppm + NAA 1000 ppm), T6 (IBA 2000 ppm + NAA 2000 ppm) and T7 (control) which were planted under C1 (open field), C2 (shade house) and C3 (polyhouse) conditions. Among the shoot parameters, the earliest sprouting (15.67) were recorded with T6 (IBA 2000 ppm + NAA 2000 ppm) under C1 (open field), while T6 (IBA 2000 ppm + NAA 2000 ppm) under C2 (shade house) recorded maximum shoot diameter (0.93 cm), shoot length (11.42 cm), number of leaves (10.32), fresh weight of shoot (7.83 g) and dry weight of shoots (2.35 g). The maximum root growth parameters viz., longest root length (23.18 cm), number of roots (26.67), fresh weight of roots (2.53 g) and dry weight of roots (0.79 g) and the highest survival percentage (87.35) were also recorded with the treatment T6 (IBA 2000 ppm + NAA 2000 ppm) under C2 (shade house). On the basis of results for fig propagation under Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh, fig hardwood cuttings treatment with IBA 2000 ppm + NAA 2000 ppm under the shade house conditions can be recommended to nursery growers and researchers to obtain maximum shoot growth, root growth and highest survival percentage.

    Effect of plant growth regulators and thiourea on seed germination and seedling growth of Jatti Khatti (Citrus jambhiri Lush.)

    The present investigation entitled “Effect of plant growth regulators and thiourea on seed germination and seedling growth of Jatti Khatti (Citrus jambhiri Lush.)” was conducted at Fruit Nursery, Department of Fruit Science, College of Horticulture, Banda University of Agriculture & Technology, Banda 210001, (U.P.) during the year 2020-2021. The experiment was conducted in Completely randomized design with nine treatments, replication thrice. The seed germination experiment was conducted in laboratory (in Petri dish). However, the physical growth parameters and root parameters were taken in shade net house. The various concentration of plant growth regulators and thiourea viz., T1 (Control), T2 (GA3 200 ppm), T3 (GA3 400 ppm), T4 (IAA 30 ppm), T5 (IAA 50 ppm), T6 (Thiourea 500 ppm), T7 (Thiourea 1000 ppm), T8 (Kinetin 500 ppm) and T9 (Kinetin 1000 ppm) were used to treat the seeds of Jatti Khatti and further observations were taken for 30 days for seed germination parameters. The result indicated that minimum days taken to start seed germination in 8 days, maximum germination percentage 94.47%, earliness index 0.886 and also vigour index 511.760 in T3 (GA3 400 ppm) for 12 hours were recoded. However, the final observation was taken for 90 DAS for initial seedling growth and root parameters. The results were indicated that maximum seedling height (15.400 cm), number of leaves per plant (16.800), leaf area (7.003 cm2 ), stem diameter (0.323 cm), fresh and dry weight of shoot (0.398 g), (0.186 g) respectively, length of primary root (8.820 cm), number of secondary root (11.523), fresh and dry weight of root (0.158 g), (0.075 g) respectively were recorded in seed treated with T3 (GA3 400 ppm) for 12 hours. Therefore, it can be concluded that the GA3 at 400 ppm was found best for seed germination, physical growth and root parameters.
