STANDARDIZATION OF SCARIFICATION AND GROWING MEDIA FOR SEED GERMINATION AND SEEDLING GROWTH OF CHIRONJI (Buchanania lanzan SPRENG)
(DEPARTMENT OF FRUIT SCIENCE COLLEGE OF HORTICULTURE BANDA UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE & TECHNOLOGY, BANDA-210 001, UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA, 2023-06-30) DHARMENDRA KUMAR GAUTAM; Om Prakash
The present research titled “Standardization of scarification and growing media for seed germination and seedling growth of chironji (Buchanania lanzan spreng)” with two experiments will be conducted during the year 2022-2023 at the Department of Fruit Science, Fruit Nursery, College of Horticulture, Banda Agriculture and Done at University of Technology, Banda 210 001 (U.P.). The both experiments were carried out in two different designs and treatments. The effect of plant growth regulators and chemicals on Chironji seed germination and seedling growth was investigated. In the first experiment, with nine treatments and four replications were applied which were kept in a completely randomized design. The evaluation of treatments indicated that significant differences were found with respect to germination, earliness index, vigour index, seedling growth and root growth with treatments by different plant growth regulators and chemicals which were recorded with treatment T2 (GA3 500 ppm). Similarly, in the second experiment, the effects of different growing media on Chironji seed germination and seedling growth were investigated, in which six treatments (media combinations) were applied with four replicates placed in a randomized block design. The results of the treatments indicated that significant differences were observed with respect to minimum days taken for seed germination, germination percentage, survival percentage, earliness index, vigour index, seedling growth and root growth at different ratios of media combination. The media combination (Soil + FYM + Cocopeat) was recorded with a ratio of 1:1:1.
