Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda

Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda has been established as a full-fledged State University, having unique honour of being the “First Agricultural University of Bundelkhand Region”. The University was notified vide Government Order No. 301/79-V-1-10-1 (Ka) 27-2009 Lucknow and established on 2nd March 2010 under Uttar Pradesh Agriculture University Act (Sanshodhan) 1958 Gazette-Adhiniyam 2010. Initially it was named as “Manyawar Shri Kanshiram Ji University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda”, which was changed as “Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda” vide Uttar Pradesh Agriculture University Act (Sanshodhan) Adhiniyam, 2014, No. 1528(2)/LXXIX-V-1-14-1(Ka)-13-2014 dated 4th December 2014. The University has been established for the development of the agriculture and allied sectors in the Uttar Pradesh on the whole and Bundelkhand region in particular. It is committed to serve the Bundelkhand region with trinity concept, i.e. complete integration of teaching, research and extension for the development of agriculture and allied sectors in order to ensure food security and enhance socio-economic status of inhabitants. State Government of Uttar Pradesh has assigned the University with the responsibilities of (a) human resource generation and development, (b) generation and perfection of technologies, and (c) their dissemination to the farmers, orchardists and dairy farmers in the Chitrakoot Dham and Jhansi divisions. The Chirtrkoot Dham Division consists of four districts, namely Banda, Chitrakoot (Karvi), Mahoba and Hamirpur whereas Jhansi Division consists of Jhansi, Lalitpur and Jalaun (Orai) districts.

    STUDY ON ENTREPRENEURIAL BEHAVIOUR OF SKILLED YOUTH IN AGRI AND ALLIED SECTORS OF BANDA DISTRICT OF UTTAR PRADESH

    The study was conceptualized under Ex-post-facto research design. The Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh consists of seven districts, out of which, Banda was selected purposively. The three training centers were selected purposively from the total in centers in Banda district. Altogether 90 respondents were selected by using multi proportionate random sampling from these three training centers. The data was Collected through personal interview and analyzed by applying appropriate statistical tools. The findings of study show that majority of respondents were belonged to 25-33 years age group with graduation level education and semi-medium land holdings. It also shows that joint family system and large families were prominent among respondents. The social participation of majority of the respondents was found low. The one-third of the respondents was practicing agriculture as their sole occupation. The majority of respondents were observed in semi medium annual income category i.e. between rupees one lakh to three lakh per annum. The utilization of sources of information was also found medium. All the components of entrepreneurial behavior viz. innovativeness, achievement motivation, risk orientation, decision making ability, leadership ability, self-confidence and management orientation were found under medium level category. The overall entrepreneurial behavior of majority of the respondents was of medium level. Further, the dependent variables such as: education, land holding, material possession, occupation, annual income and sources of information, were significantly affected the entrepreneurial behavior of skilled youth. Lack of availability of fund was perceived as top most constraints followed by multistep and time taking licensing process to establish new venture, and higher rate of interest on bank loan were observed as important constraints. The finding of study shows progressiveness of respondents. From above findings, it may be concluded that for turning the trained youth as young entrepreneur in Bundelkhand region the various efforts such as awareness, subsidies and marketing awareness, intensive training programmes, demonstrations, tours, exposure visits etc. should be done.
