Studies on phosphorus fertilization on seed yield of cowpea [vigna unguiculata (L.) walp]
(JNKVV, 2015) Sodge, Manish; Singh, V.K.
    ABSTRACT The present investigation entitled “Studies on phosphorus fertilization on seed yield of cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp]” was carried out during kharif season of 2014 at the Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, College of Agriculture Tikamgarh, (M.P.). The experimental material for the present investigation was comprised of sixteen treatments of cowpea. These treatments were sown in Split Plot Design with three replications, to observed growth, yield attributes and yield parameters and to estimate the economics of the treatments. Observations were recorded on the basis of five random competitive plants selected from each treatment separately for growth, yield attributes and yield parameters were evaluated as per standard procedure and also estimate the economics. On the basis of results, the present investigation is summarized as follows: On the basis of present investigation, it is concluded that the cowpea variety Pusa Komal responded well in terms of growth, seed yield and attributing characters. Among the interaction of Phosphorus x FYM, application of 75.0P2O5kg/ha + 5.0tFYM/ha (P3F1) was exhibited significantly maximum growth (viz., plant height, number of branches per plant, number of clusters per plant, d a y s t o 5 0 % f l o w e r i n g , days to first picking, y i e l d a t t r i b u t e s ( i . e . number of pods per cluster and number of pods per plant) and seed yields ( i . e . p e r p l a n t , p e r p l o t a n d p e r h e c t a r e ) as compare to other treatment combinations. Seed inoculation of 0.5kg PSB/ha was recorded significantly maximum growth and seed yields ( i . e . p e r p l a n t , p e r p l o t a n d p e r h e c t a r e ) o f c o w p e a as compare to other treatment combinations. Combined application of 75.0P2O5kg/ha + 5.0tFYM/ha + 0.5kg PSB/ha (P3F1B1) was noted significantly maximum growth and seed yields ( i . e . p e r p l a n t , p e r p l o t a n d p e r h e c t a r e ) o f c o w p e a as compare to other treatment combinations. It is revealed from the data obtained that the treatment combination of P3F1B1 (application of 75.0P2O5kg/ha + 5.0tFYM/ha + 0.5kg PSB/ha) gave significantly maximum 14.74 q/ha seed yield, Rs. 265320/ha gross return and net return of Rs. 232876/ha with benefit cost ratio of Rs. 8.18 was obtained in cowpea variety Pusa Komal.
