Studies on Effect of Growth Regulator and Rooting Media on Rooting and Survival of Air Layered Kagzi Lime (Citrus aurantifolia awingle)
(JNKVV, 2013) Gond, Shikha; Jain, P.K.
ABSTRACT The present investigation was carried out during rainy season of 2012-13 at Fruit research station, Department of Horticulture, J.N.K.V.V., Jabalpur. The treatment consists of 5 levels of IBA and three rooting media. Thus there were in all 15 combinations of various treatments of IBA and rooting media and these were replicated 3 times in an Asymmetrical Factorial Randomized Block design. The data of final observations of root and growth characters were statistically analyzed. The salient findings of the investigation are summarized below: The study was undertaken with the objective of exploring the technique of air layering in acid lime, propagation with the aid of IBA and rooting media. The air operation was done in the month of August and the period of observations were 150 days after layering. The experiment observations for establishment percentage were taken at 45 days after transplanting. The analysis of variance showed significant differences among all the characters studied under different treatments. The length of shoots followed by number of branches and number of leaves per air layers at 150 DAL. The treatment with IBA at 4000 ppm and wet sphagnum moss as rooting media resulted highest percentage of successful air layers. The maximum number of primary and secondary roots, length of primary roots, diameter of primary roots, maximum fresh and dry weight of roots found in treatment with IBA 2000 ppm and soil +silt+ FYM as rooting media, under polyhouse conditions. Growth characters are also found maximum in same treatment. The different rooting media like sphagnum moss, vermicompost and FYM etc. may be tested for the better initiation of rooting and survival percentage of air layers in climatic conditions of Jabalpur .
