Technical efficiency of coconut production in karnataka: a frontier production funtion approach
(JNKVV, 2016) Rekha, Shashi; Singh, R.B.
ABSTRACT Coconut is the second largest and important horticultural crop of the Karnataka state, occupying 31 per cent of the total area under horticultural crop. The crop is grown in all the districts of the state. Analysis is a systematic examination and evaluation of data or information, by breaking it into its component parts to uncover their interrelationships. There are various types of statistical analysis. The most commonly used statistical analysis of production is trend analysis. Technical efficiency is the effectiveness with which a given set of inputs is used to produce an output. The concept of technical efficiency is related to productive efficiency. A production frontier describes the technical relationship between the input and output of a production process. The present study will analyze the production of coconut in Karnataka. In case of Karnataka, all the districts been selected for making a detailed study. In the present study, the stochastic frontier production function approach was used to measure technical efficiency. The future prediction of Coconut Production in Karnataka were estimated upon the best fitted growth model used for fitting the trend equations. The study reveals that the technical efficiency of coconut production in Karnataka. The results shows the technical efficiency of coconut production varies from 67% to 99% with mean of 89%. Thus we compare the factors affecting the production are technically more efficient for the production of coconut. A Trans-log stochastic frontier production function is used for the analysis of data. The study has indicated that the coconut production in Karnataka are highly technical efficient. Hence the study reveals the potentiality of attaining productivity of coconut with given level of factors and technology. In addition of improving the efficiency of production, the coconut producers are gaining a sustainable profit.
