Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar

Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University popularly known as HAU, is one of Asia's biggest agricultural universities, located at Hisar in the Indian state of Haryana. It is named after India's seventh Prime Minister, Chaudhary Charan Singh. It is a leader in agricultural research in India and contributed significantly to Green Revolution and White Revolution in India in the 1960s and 70s. It has a very large campus and has several research centres throughout the state. It won the Indian Council of Agricultural Research's Award for the Best Institute in 1997. HAU was initially a campus of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. After the formation of Haryana in 1966, it became an autonomous institution on February 2, 1970 through a Presidential Ordinance, later ratified as Haryana and Punjab Agricultural Universities Act, 1970, passed by the Lok Sabha on March 29, 1970. A. L. Fletcher, the first Vice-Chancellor of the university, was instrumental in its initial growth.

    Effect of nitrogen and phosphorus on flowering , yield and quality of strawberry cv. Winter Dawn

    The present investigation was carried out to study the effect of nitrogen and phosphorus on flowering, yield and quality of strawberry cv. Winter Dawn in the Department of Horticulture, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar during 2020-21. There were 12 treatment i.e. T1: 40% NO3- + 60% NH4+ + P2O5 200 g, T2: 50% NO3-+ 50% NH4++ P2O5 200 g, T3: 60% NO3- + 40% NH4++ P2O5 200 g, T4: 70% NO3-+ 30% NH4+ + P2O5 200g, T5: 80% NO3- + 20% NH4+ + P2O5 200 g, T6: 90% NO3- + 10% NH4+ + P2O5 200 g, T7: 40% NO3- +60% NH4++ P2O5 300 g, T8: 50% NO3- + 50% NH4+ + P2O5 300 g, T9: 60% NO3- + 40% NH4+ + P2O5 300 g, T10: 70% NO3- + 30% NH4+ + P2O5 300 g, T11: 80% NO3- + 20% NH4+ + P2O5 300 g, T12: 90% NO3- +10% NH4+ + P2O5 300g. Among the different treatments T12 (90%NO3- + 10%NH4++P2O5 300 g) performed best in terms of plant height (18.8 cm), plant spread (32.6 cm), crown diameter(16.4 mm), plant fresh weight (53.9 g) and dry weight (15.6 g), acidity (0.88%) and ascorbic acid content (42.6 mg/100g). Treatment combination T11 (80% NO3- + 20% NH4+ + P2O5 200 g) recorded the maximum TSS (7.3%). Whereas, size of primary flower and fruit length of primary fruit was observed insignificant. T12 (90% NO3- +10% NH4+ + P2O5 300g) performed best in terms of early flowering (72.1 DAP), average number of flower (10.8), number of primary flower (7.3), number of secondary flower (12.1), number of tertiary flower (12.4), total number of flower (31.8), size of secondary flower (30.8mm), size of tertiary flower (22.9 mm), fruit breadth of primary fruit (36.9 mm), early fruiting (98 DAP),total number of fruits per plant (29),weight of primary fruit (17.4 g), weight of secondary fruit (12.7 g),weight of tertiary fruit(6.9 g) and yield per plant (332.5 g).
