STUDIES ON IMMUNOMODULATION BY LEVAMISOLE ALONG WITH VACCINATION IN CHICKS AGAINST RANIKHET DISEASE AND IN CALVES AGAINST HAEMORRHAGIC SEPTICAEMIA
    (AAU, Anand, 1985) VYAS, GIRISH P.; DHOLAKIA, P. M.
The present study was aimed assessment of the immunomodulatory effect of levamisole along with vaccination in chicks against RanikhetDisease (R.D.) and in calves against Haemorrhagic Septicaemia (H.S.) in relation to serum antibody titres, effect of dose of levamisole, total immunity period and electrophoretic pattern of serum proteins after immunization and treatment with levamisole. In all 560 serum samples from 140 chicks belonging to Central Poultry Research Station and 100 serum samples from 20 calves belonging to Livestock Research Station of Gujarat Agricultural University, Anand Campus, Anand were subjected to Haemaggulutination Inhibition (H.I.) test, Passive Haemagglutination (PHA) test, Sodium sulfite precipitation test and Agar gel electrophoresis.

CLINICO-PATHOLOGICAL STUDIES OF RUMINAL ALKALOSIS AND ITS THERAPY IN BUFFALOES
    (AAU, Anand, 1983) DESAI, PANKAJ U.; Dave, M. R.
Ruminal alkalosis caused by sudden change in diets with excessive amount of protein rich and non-protein nitrogenous substances, and poor qualityroughage is clinically characterrized by anorexia, dullness, ruminal stony, staxia and drop in milk yield in lactating animals. The condition may be sub-acute, acute and chronic in nature and the affected animals may die due to intoxication in acute condiion if timely therapeutic aid is not available. Farmers suffer from economic loss in production and death. The present study envisages the clinico-pathological aspects of the ruminal alkalosis in experimental and clinical cases in buffaloes which may help in understanding the pathogenesis early diagnosis and suitable treatment.

SUPEROVULATION, NON-SURGICAL RECOVERY AND EMBRYO TRANSFER IN THE WATER BUFFALO (Bubalus bubalis)
    (AAU, Anand, 1986) MOTWANI, KISHORE T.; Kodagali, S. B.
Embryo transfer in dairy cattle is a tool to produce large number of high quality seed stock and to multiply the most desirable genotype. The present study was an attempt to adopt the standard superovulatory region, non-surgical recovery and embryo transfer technique of cattle to the water buffaloes. The experimental animals comprised of high yielding six Surti breed and six Mehsani breed buffaloes to serve as potential donors and five Surti breed buffaloes as recipients. The study was undertaken during the period from February to May, 1985 (summer).

EFFECT OF DIAZEPAM, PENTAZOCINE AND PROCAINE HYDROCHLORIDE WITH THIOPENTONE SODIUM AS A GENERAL ANAESTHETIC IN DOGS (Canis domestica)
    (AAU, Anand, 1985) SOLANKI, H. J.; Mannari, M. N.
The effect of Diazepam, Pentazocine and Procaine hydrochloride as maintenance agents in Thiopentone sodium anaesthesia were evaluated in three different groups of mongrel dogs. Each group contained six animals. Each group was sub-divided into two divisions, one where surgery was performed and the other where surgery was not performed. All the dogs were preanasthetized with Atropine sulphate.

DIAGNOSTIC AND INVESTIGATIVE ANDROLOGY IN CROSS-BRED BULLS
    (AAU, Anand, 1985) PATEL, KISHORE V.; KODAGALI, S. B.
A study on “Andrological Investigation of nine cross-bred bulls: was undertaken during the period of one year (cold, hot and wet seasons) at the Department of Veterinary Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Gujarat Veterinary College, Anand. The study included clinical examinations, evaluations of seminal characters, assay of seminal biochemical constituents and estimation of haematological parameters. Bulls were ranked, based on sperm motility, sperm concentration, abnormal sperm per cent and initial fructose (mg%),. Bulls were grouped into excellent sexual function/ESF(3), normal sexual function/NSF(4) and problem bulls (2).

STUDIES ON MYCOTIC MASTITIS IN EXOTIC AND CROSSBRED CATTLE WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO ITS INCIDENCE AND DIAGNOSIS
    (AAU, Anand, 1984) SIMARIA, MULJI B.; DHOLAKIA, P. M.
The present study was taken up to assess the incidence of mycotic infections of under in apparently healthy quarters of lactating cows and diagnosis in milk samples from clinical cases, Simultaneously, the prevalence of subclinical mastitis (SCM), and pathogenicity of fungal strains were also studied. The milk samples from 150 lactating cows (53 Jersey, 30 Kankrej and 67 crossbred) were collected. In addition to this 82 milk samples from clinical cases of mastitis received in Department of Bacteriology were also included in the present study. Subclinical mastitis (SCM) was recorded as 15.33 and 5.27 per cent on animal and quarter basis with California Mastitis Test. Although, incidence of SCM was highest in Jersey herd (8.82% quarterwise), fungal isolation was as low as 2.45 per cent, Hence CMT did not prove efficient enough to detect fungal infection in apparently normal udders.

STUDIES ON ANOESTROUS CONDITION IN SURTI BUFFALOES AND TRIALS WITH CLOMIPHENE CITRATE
    (AAU, Anand, 1984) PANDYA, VINOD J.; KODAGALI, S. B.
The present study on anoestrous condition was carried out on 185 Surti buffaloes and trials were made with clomiphene citrate for inducing of oestrus, evulation and pregnancy. The aspects of season, body score (condition), route and dosage of the drug, C.M.F.P. and certain biochemical profiles were studied and revealed following findings. 1. Season: There was significant difference in the number of oestrus induced in treatment group and occurrance of oestrus in control group during L.B.S. and H.B.S.

STUDIES ON OESTRUS, OESTROUS CYCLE, SUPEROVULATION AND RECOVERY OF OVA WITH REFERENCE TO EMBRYO-TRANSFER IN SHEEP (Ovis aries)
    (AAU, Anand, 1984) PATEL, DIPAK C.; KODAGALI, S. B.
The present study on “Oestrus, Cestrous cycle, Superovulation and recovery of ova with reference to embryo transfer in sheep (Ovis aries)” was carried out during two breeding seasons (April to June 1983 and 1984). The experimental animals were 15 healthy ewes of Patanwadi X Russian Merino (P X RM) type and 10 Marwadi Breed (MB) between 4 to 8 years of age and having normal breeding history. The aspects of the study included rectal and vaginal temperatures in different phases of oestrous cycle and oestrus and oestrous cycle length.
