SURGICAL MANAGEMENT OF HOOF DISORDERS USING FUNCTIONAL HOOF TRIMMING IN ORGANISED DAIRY FARMS
(Anand Agricultural University, Anand, 2012) MAHENDRA SHESHRAO BAGATE; Dr. D. B. Patil
The present investigations were aimed at recording the incidence of different hoof lesions to undertake standardized treatment protocols for management of various foot disorders, to perform functional claw trimming of affected animals at farmers door step using Tip Chute, to collect the hoof shavings and blood samples of certain affected animals for certain laboratory estimations and suggest preventive measures to reduce occurrence of hoof disorders in 14 selected organised dairy farms, 2 university farms, 7 Panjrapoles and 3 Gaushala in and around Anand and Gujarat state. The information derived by surveillance was analyzed in relation to species, breed, age, sex, housing system and floor conditions. Surveillance of 6282 cattle and 1616 buffaloes revealed 1029

CLINICLAL STUDIES ON VIDEO ENDOSCOPY OF UPPER GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT AFFECTIONS IN DOGS
(Anand Agricultural University, Anand, 2012) SHUKLA TEJAS BHARATBHAI; Dr. P. V. Parikh
Clinical studies on videoendoscopy were carried out in 28 dogs to evaluate the technique of oesophagoscopy and gastroduodenoscopy for visualization of upper gastro-intestinal tract. A total of 13,388 clinical cases were registered from 1st January, 2011 to 31st December, 2011 at the University clinic, Anand. Out of which, 2034(28.52%) were surgical cases and amongst them 906(44.54%) were that of canine. Animals having vomition, diarrhoea, weight loss, lethargy, partial or complete anorexia were initially screened and subjected to haematobiochemical and radiological/ ultrasonographic investigation as per the need. The age of dogs ranged from 2 months to 16 years. Sex wise, the incidence of males

STUDY ON GENERAL ANAESTHESIA AND POSTOPERATIVE PAIN MANAGEMENT DURING CLINICAL ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY IN DOGS
(Anand Agricultural University, Anand, 2012) RANPARIYA JAYENDRAKUMAR JAYNTILAL; Dr. D.R. BARVALIA
A clinical study, on18 dogs of either sex was undertaken to evaluate sedative effect of BAG - Butorphanol, Acepromazine and Glycopyrrolate @ 0.2, 0.04 and 0.01 mg/kg b.wt., respectively, as a combination administered intramuscularly in orthopaedic cases. Induction was carried out using midazolam (0.28 mg/kg b.wt.) - ketamine (5 mg/kg b.wt.) mixture intravenously (IV) about 15 minutes after premedication. The maintenance of anaesthesia was carried out with isoflurane. Anaesthesia was induced in overnight fasted and

SONOLOCATION GUIDED AXILLARY BRACHIAL PLEXUS BLOCK USING BUPIVACAINE AND HYPERBARIC BUPIVACAINE IN DOGS AND GOATS
(Anand Agricultural University, Anand, 2012) PADIYA NIKUNJ BIPINCHANDRA; Dr. P. V. PARIKH
The present clinical study evaluated the efficacy of bupivacaine HCl (0.5%) and hyperbaric bupivacaine (0.5%) for axillary brachial plexus block in 12 dogs and 12 goats under ultrasonographic guidance with aid of peripheral nerve stimulator (PNS). Ultrasonography of axillary brachial plexus was performed using 7.5-10 MHz linear transducer in all dogs and goats. The axillary brachial plexus was identified as three rounded hyperechoic structures with axillary artery as pulsative hypoechoic structure kept as land mark, also located with the maximum muscle twitching at 0.4 mA current with aid of peripheral nerve stimulator in all animals. Axillary BPB performed using bupivacaine HCl (0.5%) in six dogs, showed complete BPB at dose rate of 2.5 mg/kg b.wt. in two dogs only with mean full onset of 140 + 40 minutes; while in six dogs, wherein hyperbaric bupivacaine was used, four dogs showed a complete BPB at dose rate of 3.0 mg/kg b.wt. with mean full onset of 100 + 40 minutes. Axillary BPB performed using bupivacaine HCl (0.5%) in six goats, showed complete BPB at dose rate of 3.0 mg/kg b.wt. in three goats with mean full onset of 180 + 40 minutes; while in six goats, wherein hyperbaric bupivacaine, four goats showed a complete BPB at dose rate of 3.0 mg/kg b.wt. with mean full onset of

STUDIES ON IMPLANTATION OF INTRAOCULAR LENS IN THE EYES AND OCULAR LENS MATERIAL IN THE MUSCLES OF RABBITS (Oryctolagus cuniculus)
(Anand Agricultural University, Anand, 2012) DEEPIKA DEV RISHI; Dr. D.B.PATIL
Intraocular lens (IOL) implantation after cataract operation has become widespread practice while its clinical results are generally satisfying. Despite this development, there still exist various problems in the design, materials and operative methods. Intraocular lenses are primarily located in the immediate vicinity of uveal tissue and are in direct contact with lens capsule tissue; this can cause a pathophysiologic reaction comprising inflammatory cells and lens epithelial cells. The reactive patterns of both types of tissue are generally considered indicators of IOL biocompatibility. The Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), Acrylic
