Anand Agricultural University, Anand

Anand Agricultural University (AAU) was established in 2004 at Anand with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Act No.(Guj 5 of 2004) dated April 29, 2004. Caved out of the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU), the dream institution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. K. M. Munshi, the AAU was set up to provide support to the farming community in three facets namely education, research and extension activities in Agriculture, Horticulture Engineering, product Processing and Home Science. At present there seven Colleges, seventeen Research Centers and six Extension Education Institute working in nine districts of Gujarat namely Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Botad and Chhotaudepur AAU's activities have expanded to span newer commodity sectors such as soil health card, bio-diesel, medicinal plants apart from the mandatory ones like rice, maize, tobacco, vegetable crops, fruit crops, forage crops, animal breeding, nutrition and dairy products etc. the core of AAU's operating philosophy however, continues to create the partnership between the rural people and committed academic as the basic for sustainable rural development. In pursuing its various programmes AAU's overall mission is to promote sustainable growth and economic independence in rural society. AAU aims to do this through education, research and extension education. Thus, AAU works towards the empowerment of the farmers.

    The present investigation entitled "Effect of accelerated ageing on seed quality parameters in onion” was carried out during 2012 to 2014 at, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, B. A. College of Agriculture, AAU, Anand (Gujarat). Onion (Allium cepa L.) is a bulbous vegetable crop of family Amarilidaceae. In the world, India is the second largest producer of onion, next only to China. It is being grown both in kharif and rabi in India. It occupies an area of 10.51 lakh hectare, with production of 168.13 lakh tons and productivity 16 metric tons per hectare. Gujarat is the leading state for onion cultivation having an area of 0.28 lakh hectares and production about 704.38 metric tones. Gujarat is having the highest productivity of 24.4 metric tons per hectare. (Anon:, 2013)

    INFLUENCE OF PLANT GROWTH REGULATORS ON GROWTH, SEED YIELD AND SEED QUALITY IN OKRA (Abelmoschus esculentus L. MOENCH) CV. “GAO-5” UNDER MIDDLE GUJARAT CONDITION

    The present investigation entitled “Influence of plant growth regulators on growth, seed yield and seed quality in okra (Ablemoschus esculantus L. Moench) cv. “GAO-5” under middle Gujarat condition was carried out at Main Vegetable Research Station, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during the kharif season, 2012. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design with nine treatments and three replications. The treatments comprised of two levels each of GA3 (50 and 100 ppm), NAA (100 and 200 ppm), thiourea (500 and 1000 ppm) and ethrel (500 and 1000 ppm), and control (water spray).     Influence of decapitations and plant growth regulators on plant growth, seed yield and quality of seed of clusterbean (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba L.Taub.,) variety Pusa Navbahar in summer

    A field experiment was conducted at Main Vegetable Research Station, Anand Agriculture University, Anand during the year 2013 in summer season on sandy loam soil with a view to study the “Influence of decapitations and plant growth regulators on plant growth, seed yield and quality of clusterbean seeds (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba L.Taub.,) variety Pusa Navbahar in summer” under the middle Gujarat condition. There was twenty two treatment combinations comprising three decapitation treatments i.e. D1- without decapitation (control), D2 – decapitation at 60 DAS and D3 – decapitation at 75 DAS and seven different PGR’s treatments and one was absolute control i.e. G1 – water spray (control), G2 –NAA 20 mg/l, G3 –NAA 40 mg/l, G4 –GA3 20 mg/l, G5 –GA3 40 mg/l, G6 – Thiourea 500 mg/l and G7 –Thiourea 1000 mg/l in a Randomized Complete Block Design (Factorial) with three replications.
