Anand Agricultural University, Anand

Anand Agricultural University (AAU) was established in 2004 at Anand with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Act No.(Guj 5 of 2004) dated April 29, 2004. Caved out of the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU), the dream institution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. K. M. Munshi, the AAU was set up to provide support to the farming community in three facets namely education, research and extension activities in Agriculture, Horticulture Engineering, product Processing and Home Science. At present there seven Colleges, seventeen Research Centers and six Extension Education Institute working in nine districts of Gujarat namely Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Botad and Chhotaudepur AAU's activities have expanded to span newer commodity sectors such as soil health card, bio-diesel, medicinal plants apart from the mandatory ones like rice, maize, tobacco, vegetable crops, fruit crops, forage crops, animal breeding, nutrition and dairy products etc. the core of AAU's operating philosophy however, continues to create the partnership between the rural people and committed academic as the basic for sustainable rural development. In pursuing its various programmes AAU's overall mission is to promote sustainable growth and economic independence in rural society. AAU aims to do this through education, research and extension education. Thus, AAU works towards the empowerment of the farmers.

    GENOTYPE X ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION STUDIES IN PROMISING EARLY GENOTYPES OF RICE (Oryza sativa L.)

    Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is considered as one of the most important crop plants from Poaceae. Today, rice has special position as a source of providing over 75% of Asian population and more than three billion of world populations meal, which represents 50 to 80% of their daily calorie intake. The world population will increase to over 4.6 billion by 2050, which demands more than 50% of rice needs to be produced what is produced at present to cope with the growing population (Sreedhar et al 2011). Therefore, efforts to enhance rice productivity coupled with stability of performance under varying environments must receive top priority. The present investigation was therefore undertaken with a view to elicit information on stability parameters for agromorphological traits, grain and straw yield, yield attributing traits, grain dimentions parameters and quality parameters. The present investigation was carried out to elicit information on stability performance of rice genotypes in the Gujarat state along with local check varieties (cultivars) for eighteen quantitative and qualitative traits in 3 environments. The experiment was conducted under Middle Gujarat Agro-climatic situation (Middle Gujarat agro-climatic Zone- III) at three locations i.e. Main Rice Research Station, A.A.U., Nawagam, Paddy Research station, Model Farm, A.A.U., Dabhoi and Agricultural Research Station(Muvaliya Farm), A.A.U., Dahod. during kharif season of 2012. The data generated were analysed using methodology suggested by Eberhart and Russell (1966).

    Genetic Variability, Correlation and Path Analysis for Seed Yield and its components in Green gram [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek]

    The present study was carried-out to assess genetic variability, characters association and path analysis for seed yield and component characters in forty genotypes of mungbean grown in a Randomized Block Design with three replications at the Hill Millets Research Station, A.A.U., Dahod during kharif season of the year 2012. The observations were recorded on twelve characters viz., days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, plant height, number of primary branches per plant, number of clusters per plant, number of pods per cluster, number of pods per plant, pod length, number of seeds per pod, 100-seed weight, seed yield per plant and protein content.

    Genetic Analysis of Yield, Its Attributing Traits and β-Carotene Content in Diallel Crosses of Maize (Zea mays L.)

    Maize (Zea mays L.) is an important cross pollinated cereal crop of high economic and nutritional value. Genetic variation can be utilized to alter kernel composition for both quantity and quality of starch, oil, protein, lysine and tryptophan in protein and β- carotene content (pro-vitamin-A). In this context, For the enrichment of vitamin-A content in the human diet, variability for β-carotene content can be exploited through pro-vitamin-A biofortification. Looking to the importance the study conducted to assess magnitude of heterosis and combining ability of 28 single cross hybrids developed by half-diallel mating design involving 8 parents and 2 standard checks (GAYMH-1 and HQPM-1). The genetic diversity analysis of parental inbred lines involved in the crosses was done by SSR molecular marker analysis. The field experiment laid out in randomized block design with three replications at Agronomy Farm, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand in rabi 2014-15.

    GENETIC ANALYSIS OF YIELD AND ITS COMPONENTS IN RICE (Oryza Sativa L.)

    The present investigation was carried out at Main Rice Research Station, Anand Agricultural University, Nawagam during Kharif 2012 with a view to study the genetic parameters viz., gene action, heterosis, inbreeding depression, heritability and expected genetic advance of four crosses (each having P1, P2, F1, F2 and F3 generations) in a Compact Family Block Design with three replications.
