Anand Agricultural University, Anand

Anand Agricultural University (AAU) was established in 2004 at Anand with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Act No.(Guj 5 of 2004) dated April 29, 2004. Caved out of the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU), the dream institution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. K. M. Munshi, the AAU was set up to provide support to the farming community in three facets namely education, research and extension activities in Agriculture, Horticulture Engineering, product Processing and Home Science. At present there seven Colleges, seventeen Research Centers and six Extension Education Institute working in nine districts of Gujarat namely Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Botad and Chhotaudepur AAU's activities have expanded to span newer commodity sectors such as soil health card, bio-diesel, medicinal plants apart from the mandatory ones like rice, maize, tobacco, vegetable crops, fruit crops, forage crops, animal breeding, nutrition and dairy products etc. the core of AAU's operating philosophy however, continues to create the partnership between the rural people and committed academic as the basic for sustainable rural development. In pursuing its various programmes AAU's overall mission is to promote sustainable growth and economic independence in rural society. AAU aims to do this through education, research and extension education. Thus, AAU works towards the empowerment of the farmers.

    The present investigation on “Effect of preharvest application of chemicals and plant growth regulators on fruit quality and shelf life of different varieties of custard apple (Annona squamosa L.)” was carried out during Kharif-Rabi season of the year 2015 at Horticultural Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand. The plants of custard apple were preharvest sprayed with CaCl2 @ 2 %, KNO3 @ 2 %, GA3 @ 50 mg/l and NAA @ 50 mg/l.     The present investigation was carried out during the year 2013-14 at the Post Graduate Laboratory, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand (Gujarat). The treatments comprised 3 levels of post harvest chemicals i.e. without chemical, KMno4 (4g/l) and Carbendazim (100mg/l) with two packaging materials viz bamboo baskets and Corrugated Fibre Boxes (CFB) and three lining materials viz, news paper, polyethene and paddy straw. The experiment was laid out in a Completely Randomized Block Design (Factorial) with eighteen treatment combinations and absolute control and replicated thrice.

    An investigation entitled the “Effect of containers and covering materials on quality and shelf life of Mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Amrapali” was conducted at P.G. Laboratory, Department of Horticulture, B.A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during the month of June 2012. The research was carried out in Completely Randomized Design with four replications, having thirteen treatments. In experiment, the graded fruits of mango were packaged in various packaging containers (Bamboo basket, CFB box and Plastic crates, with or without covering material) and stored at ambient condition. The fruits were examined for different physiological changes at 0, 6, 8, 10 and 12 days after storage
