FLORAL BIOLOGY MODE OF POLLINATION AND ARTIFICIAL CROSSING IN TINNEVELLY SENNA (CASSIA ANGUSTIFOLIA VAHL)
    (AAU, Anand, 1982) JAIN, ASHOK K.; Dalal, K. C.
In selected plants of Tinnevelly senna (Cassia angustifolia Vahl, Caesalpiniaceae), wherein, the time taken from sowing to bud initiation was 38-42 days, the initiation of bud to blooming took 16 days. Anthesis commenced from 02.00 hours and was completed by 06.00 to 07.00 hours. Number of days required for completion of anthesis in an inflorescence had linear relationship with number of total buds that opened in an inflorescence. Anther dehiscence started from 08.00 to 09.00 hours and continued upto 15.00 to 16.00 hours. Pollem viability and stigma respectively remained only for the day of anthesis.

HETEROSIS AND COMBINING ABILITY IN PIGEONPEA (Cajanus cajan (L) Millsp.)
(AAU, Anand, 1985) PATEL, DINESHBHAI BHAGWANBHAI; Patel, S. A.
Heterosis and combining ability in pigeonpea (cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.) were studied in a set of 8 x 8 diallel crosses excluding reciprocals at Pulses Research Station, Gujarat Agricultural University, Model Farm, Baroda, during kharif season of the year 1984-85. Analysis of variance manifested highly significant differences for all the traits barring numbers of primary branches, indicating the presence of considerable genetic diversity in the experimental material studied. The magnitude of heterosis varied from cross to cross for almost all the traits under study. High values of heterosis were observed for the traits viz., pods per plant and seed yield, medium for clusters per plant and pods per cluster, while relatively low for rest of the traits.

GENE ACTIONS AND INTER-CHARACTER ASSOCIATION FOR YIELD AND ITS ATTRIBUTES IN WHEAT
    (AAU, Anand, 1985) VAGHANI, JERAMBHAI L.; JAISANI, B. G.
Wheat is one of the main food crops of the world. About 35 percent of the world’s population depend on wheat as their major source of food. To combat the problem of food requirement of increasing human population, it is necessary to increase wheat production as well as productivity. For this purpose, the most important course is to evolve high yielding varieties. The knowledge of the genetic constitution and correlation of agronomic traits is a pre-requisite to any crop improvement programme. Therefore the present study was takenup investigate the genetics and inter-relationship of yield and its attributes in wheat.
