Anand Agricultural University, Anand

Anand Agricultural University (AAU) was established in 2004 at Anand with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Act No.(Guj 5 of 2004) dated April 29, 2004. Caved out of the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU), the dream institution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. K. M. Munshi, the AAU was set up to provide support to the farming community in three facets namely education, research and extension activities in Agriculture, Horticulture Engineering, product Processing and Home Science. At present there seven Colleges, seventeen Research Centers and six Extension Education Institute working in nine districts of Gujarat namely Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Botad and Chhotaudepur AAU's activities have expanded to span newer commodity sectors such as soil health card, bio-diesel, medicinal plants apart from the mandatory ones like rice, maize, tobacco, vegetable crops, fruit crops, forage crops, animal breeding, nutrition and dairy products etc. the core of AAU's operating philosophy however, continues to create the partnership between the rural people and committed academic as the basic for sustainable rural development. In pursuing its various programmes AAU's overall mission is to promote sustainable growth and economic independence in rural society. AAU aims to do this through education, research and extension education. Thus, AAU works towards the empowerment of the farmers.

    The present investigation was carried out on “Effect of GA3, NAA and biofertilizers on seed germination and seedling growth of custard apple (Annona squamosa L.) cv. Local” at Horticultural Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during Kharif- Rabi season of the year 2018-19. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) having ten treatment combinations, comprising of three levels of growth regulators viz., GA3 @ 50, 75 and 100 mg/l, NAA @ 50, 75 and 100 mg/l, and biofertilizers viz., Azatobactor, Azospirillum and Bio NPK consortia each of 5 ml/l of water as a seed soaking for 24 hours before sowing. The treatments were repeated thrice. The effect of these treatments on different parameters of germination and growth of the seedling were studied under the net house condition.

    A field experiment was carried out on “Effect of biofertilizer, manures and chemical fertilizers on growth, yield and quality of guava (Psidium guajava L.) cv. Allahabad Safeda” at Horticultural Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during Kharif - Rabi season of the year 2018. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design with 09 treatments viz., T1 - 100 % RDF through chemical fertilizers + 50 Kg FYM, T2 - 80 % RDF through chemical fertilizers + 40 Kg FYM + 10 ml Bio NPK Consortium per tree, T3 - 40 % RDF through chemical fertilizers + 40 % RDN through Vermicompost + 10 ml Bio NPK Consortium per tree, T4 - 40 % RDF through chemical fertilizers + 40 % RDN through Poultry manure + 10 ml Bio NPK Consortium per tree, T5 - 40 % RDF through chemical fertilizers + 40 % RDN through Castor cake + 10 ml Bio NPK Consortium per tree, T6 - 60 % RDF through chemical fertilizers + 30 Kg FYM + 20 ml Bio NPK Consortium per tree, T7 - 30% RDF through chemical fertilizers + 30 % RDN through Vermicompost + 20 ml Bio NPK Consortium per tree, T8 - 30 % RDF through chemical fertilizers + 30 % RDN through Poultry manure + 20 ml Bio NPK Consortium per tree and T9 - 30 % RDF through chemical fertilizers + 30 % RDN through Castor cake + 20 ml Bio NPK Consortium per tree. The soil of the experimental site was loamy sand. The soil application of full dose of biofertilizer, manures and chemical fertilizers were given as basal dose in last week of June whereas, remaining half dose of chemical fertilizer given in first week of September.

    An investigation entitled. “Effect of foliar application of humic acid, salicylic acid and novel liquid on fruit yield and quality of mango (Mangifera indica L.) cv. Amrapali” was carried out at Horticultural Research Farm, and P.G. Laboratory, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand, during March to June, 2018. The experiment was carried out in Completely Randomized Design with three repetitions and ten treatments comprised foliar application (at 50 % flowering stage, pea stage and marble stage) of humic acid @ 1, 1.5 and 2 %, salicylic acid @ 1000, 1500 and 2000 mg/l and novel liquid @ 1, 1.5 and 2 % along with control. Different physical and biochemical parameters were recorded.

    An investigation entitled “Effect of plant growth regulator and calcium chloride on growth, yield and quality of custard apple (Annona squamosa L.) cv. Balanagar.” was carried out at Horticultural Research Farm and P.G. Laboratory, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during kharif– Rabi season of the year 2018.The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design with factorial concept (FRBD), replicated thrice with 3 levels of plant growth regulator (CPPU) foliar application (at fruit setting stage) viz.,G1 control (CPPU 0 mg/l), G2 (CPPU 10 mg/l), G3 (CPPU 20 mg/l) and four levels of calcium chloride foliar application (20 days before harvesting)viz., C1 (CaCl2 0 %), C2 (CaCl2 1 %), C3 (CaCl2 1.5 %), C4 (CaCl2 2 %).

    An investigation entitled “Effect of seed treatments on germination and seedling growth of karonda (Carissa carandas L.) cv. Local” was conducted during the Kharif season in 2018 at Horticultural Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand. The Experiment was laid out in completely randomized design involves eleven different seed treatments viz., T1: Soaking of seeds in tap water for 24 hours; T2: Hot water treatment (60 ± 5°C) for 10 minutes; T3: Soaking of seeds in cow dung slurry for 24 hours; T4: Soaking of seeds in cow urine (10%) for 24 hours; T5: Seed soaking in 5% H2SO4 (for 2 minutes) + wash in distilled water; T6: Soaking of seeds in GA3 50 mg/l for 24 hours; T7: Soaking of seeds in GA3 100 mg/l for 24 hours; T8: Soaking of seeds in GA3 150 mg/l for 24 hours; T9: Soaking of seeds in thiourea 1% for 1 hour; T10: Soaking of seeds in thiourea 2% for 1 hour and T11: Control. The treatments were repeated thrice and effect of these treatments on different parameters of germination and growth of karonda seedling were studied.

    The present investigation was carried out on “Effect of fruit bagging on quality and pest-disease occurrence of mango (Mangiferaindica L.) cv. Langra and custard apple (Annona squamosa L.) cv. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during March-June for mango and August-November for custard apple during the year 2018. Both the experiments were laid out in Completely Randomized Design with three repetition and ten treatments viz., for Experiment No.-1, Newspaper bag-(T1), Brown paper bag-(T2), White paper bag-(T3), Non-woven bag-(T4), Butter paper bag-(T5), Muslin cloth bag-(T6), Tissue paper bag-(T7), Transparent paper(plastic) bag-(T8), Brown paper bag with polythene coating-(T9), Control-(T10) and for Experiment No.-2, Newspaper bag-(T1), Brown paper bag-(T2), Non-woven bag-(T3), Brown paper bag with polythene coating-(T4), Butter paper bag-(T5), Muslin cloth bag-(T6), Tissue paper bag-(T7), Transparent paper(plastic) bag-(T8), Milky plastic bag-(T9), Control-(T10). Mango fruits were bagged on 12-15th of March and custard apple fruits were bagged on 27-30th of August.
