Anand Agricultural University, Anand

Anand Agricultural University (AAU) was established in 2004 at Anand with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Act No.(Guj 5 of 2004) dated April 29, 2004. Caved out of the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU), the dream institution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. K. M. Munshi, the AAU was set up to provide support to the farming community in three facets namely education, research and extension activities in Agriculture, Horticulture Engineering, product Processing and Home Science. At present there seven Colleges, seventeen Research Centers and six Extension Education Institute working in nine districts of Gujarat namely Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Botad and Chhotaudepur AAU's activities have expanded to span newer commodity sectors such as soil health card, bio-diesel, medicinal plants apart from the mandatory ones like rice, maize, tobacco, vegetable crops, fruit crops, forage crops, animal breeding, nutrition and dairy products etc. the core of AAU's operating philosophy however, continues to create the partnership between the rural people and committed academic as the basic for sustainable rural development. In pursuing its various programmes AAU's overall mission is to promote sustainable growth and economic independence in rural society. AAU aims to do this through education, research and extension education. Thus, AAU works towards the empowerment of the farmers.

EVALUATION OF ANTIOXIDANTS AND DIFFERENTIAL GENE EXPRESSION IN RESPONSE OF SILICON IN RICE (Oryza sativa L.) AGAINST DROUGHT
(DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY B. A. COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE ANAND AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY ANAND, 2021) Mehta Amit Ashokbhai; Dr. J. J. Dhruv
Rice (Oryza sativa L.) belongs to the family Poaceae. It is considered as a major food crop across major countries worldwide. Rice is prone to be affected by drought stress. Water deficiency is one of the major environmental constraints of plant growth and crop productivity. The crop is subjected to soil moisture deficits of varying degree and duration, which occasionally results in substantial loss of yield. Therefore, developing the drought tolerant cultivars of cereal crops assumed considerable importance. Si is also known as a multifunctional element that significantly increases plant tolerance and enhances resistance against various biotic and abiotic stresses.

EVALUATION OF ANTIOXIDANTS AND DIFFERENTIAL GENE EXPRESSION IN RESPONSE OF MELATONIN IN BOTTLE GOURD (Lagenaria siceraria (Mol.) Standl.)
(DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY B. A. COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE ANAND AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY ANAND, 2020) BedseTushar J.; Dr. J. J. Dhruv
The present experiment was carried out to study the effect of polyethylene glycol-6000 induced water deficit stress (drought) and melatonin soaked seed followed by drought treatments in laboratory condition on various biochemical, molecular parameters and antioxidant enzymes system in leaf of bottle gourd cultivars. The experiment was conducted in three parts (I) Biochemical characterization of bottle gourd seed. (II) Seed priming effect of melatonin and water deficit stress and (III) differential gene expression study. Phytochemical, biochemical and molecular characterization was carried out in seeds of ten various bottle gourd genotypes/varietiesviz., (1) GABGH-1, (2) ABG-1, (3) Pusa Naveen, (4) ABG-11-17, (5) ABG-11-23, (6) Santosh, (7) DBG-5, (8) Samrat, (9) NDBG-104 and (10) Arka Bahar.
