Anand Agricultural University, Anand

Anand Agricultural University (AAU) was established in 2004 at Anand with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Act No.(Guj 5 of 2004) dated April 29, 2004. Caved out of the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU), the dream institution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. K. M. Munshi, the AAU was set up to provide support to the farming community in three facets namely education, research and extension activities in Agriculture, Horticulture Engineering, product Processing and Home Science. At present there seven Colleges, seventeen Research Centers and six Extension Education Institute working in nine districts of Gujarat namely Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Botad and Chhotaudepur AAU's activities have expanded to span newer commodity sectors such as soil health card, bio-diesel, medicinal plants apart from the mandatory ones like rice, maize, tobacco, vegetable crops, fruit crops, forage crops, animal breeding, nutrition and dairy products etc. the core of AAU's operating philosophy however, continues to create the partnership between the rural people and committed academic as the basic for sustainable rural development. In pursuing its various programmes AAU's overall mission is to promote sustainable growth and economic independence in rural society. AAU aims to do this through education, research and extension education. Thus, AAU works towards the empowerment of the farmers.

EVALUATION OF DIFFERENT ESTRUS SYNCHRONIZATION PROTOCOLS FOR IMPROVING FERTILITY IN CYCLIC AND ACYCLIC CROSSBRED CATTLE
(Department of Animal Reproduction, Gynaecology and Obstetrics College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry Anand Agricultural University, ANAND, 2017) Ashok R. Prajapati; Dr. A.J. Dhami
This investigation was undertaken in field conditions during the year 2016-17 on 50 acyclic/anestrus and 50 cyclic repeat breeder crossbred cows to evaluate the efficacy of four estrus induction/synchronization protocols, viz., Ovsynch, Ovsynch Plus, Doublesynch, and Estradoublesynch (10 cows in each protocol, and in untreated cyclic and acyclic controls) in terms of estrus induction response, conception rates at induced estrus with fixed time AI (FTAI) and overall of 3 cycles, including monitoring plasma progesterone, protein and cholesterol profile at different time intervals during treatment and day 12 post-AI. All the animals selected were initially dewormed using s/c Inj. of 100 mg Ivermectin and were treated with i/m injection of inorganic phosphorus (Inj. Tonophosphan, 10 ml) and multivitamins AD3E (Inj. Intavita-H, 10 ml), and bolus Minotas 1 bolus daily for 7 days. Repeat breeding cows received additional single shot i/m injection of Enrofloxacin (Inj. Flobac SA, 40 ml) to rule out invisible infection, if any.

COMPARATIVE EFFICACY OF DOUBLESYNCH AND ESTRADDOUBLESYNCH PROTOCOLS OF ESTRUS SYNCHRONIZATION IN GIR HEIFERS
(DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL REPRODUCTION GYNAECOLOGY AND OBSTETRICS COLLEGE OF VETERINARY SCIENCE & ANIMAL HUSBANDRY ANAND AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY ANAND, 2017) Nitesh J. Chaudhari; Dr. D. M. Patel
This investigation was undertaken in field conditions during the year 2016-17 on 50 pubertal anoestrus Gir heifers to evaluate the efficacy of two estrus induction/ synchronization protocols, viz., Doublesynch, and Estradoublesynch (20 animals in each protocol, including 10 animals under untreated control group) in terms of estrus induction response, conception rates at induced estrus with fixed time AI (FTAI) and overall of 3 cycles, including monitoring plasma progesterone, protein and cholesterol profiles at different time intervals during treatment and day 12 post-AI. All pubertal anoestrus Gir animals identified were injected with Inj. Ivermectin, 10 ml, s/c and were vaccinated against FMD/HS as a routine. They were also treated once initially with i/m injection of Tonophosphan, 10 ml (MSD) and Inj. Intavita-H 10 ml (Vit.AD3E & Biotin, Intas Pharma), and supplemented with multi-minerals bolus (Minotas, Intas Pharma) @ 1 bolus daily for 7 days.
