GENETIC STUDIES ON BODY WEIGHTS AND MEASUREMENTS IN PATANWADI AND ITS CROSSES WITH RAMBOUILLET AND RUSSIAN MERINO
    (AAU, Anand, 1986) PANDEY, DINESH P.; PATEL, M. M.
The present study was undertaken to evaluate Patanwadi and its half-breds with Rambouillet and Russian Merino on the basis of different measurable traits of growth. The investigation also included the study of the effect of genetic and non-genetic factors , growth rate during different periods, estimation of genetic parameters and prediction equations to predict body weight on the basis of body measurements. For this study the data recorded on bodyweight (BW) and measurements viz., wither height (WH), body length (BL), heart girth (HG) and paunch girth (PG), from All India Co-ordinated Research Project on-Sheep Breeding for Fine Wool, Live-stock Research station , Sardar Krushinagar were used. In all 1945 records for Patanwadi, 4570 records for Rambouillet x Patanwadi and 4010 records for Russian Merino x Patanwadi were available for this study. The average body weights at birth , weaning and yearling age were 3.15 ± 0.05 , 12.95 ± 0.28 and 21.52 ± 0.27 kg, respectively for Patanwadi; 3.57 ± 0.04, 14.25 ± 0.20 and 25.22 ± 0.21 leg for Rambouillet x Patanwadl and 3.54 ± 0.03, 13.42 ± 0.19 and 23.81 ± 0.25 kg for Russian Merino x Patanwadi.
