Anand Agricultural University, Anand

Anand Agricultural University (AAU) was established in 2004 at Anand with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Act No.(Guj 5 of 2004) dated April 29, 2004. Caved out of the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU), the dream institution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. K. M. Munshi, the AAU was set up to provide support to the farming community in three facets namely education, research and extension activities in Agriculture, Horticulture Engineering, product Processing and Home Science. At present there seven Colleges, seventeen Research Centers and six Extension Education Institute working in nine districts of Gujarat namely Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Botad and Chhotaudepur AAU's activities have expanded to span newer commodity sectors such as soil health card, bio-diesel, medicinal plants apart from the mandatory ones like rice, maize, tobacco, vegetable crops, fruit crops, forage crops, animal breeding, nutrition and dairy products etc. the core of AAU's operating philosophy however, continues to create the partnership between the rural people and committed academic as the basic for sustainable rural development. In pursuing its various programmes AAU's overall mission is to promote sustainable growth and economic independence in rural society. AAU aims to do this through education, research and extension education. Thus, AAU works towards the empowerment of the farmers.

COMPARISON OF SELECTION INDICES USING DIFFERENT WEIGHTS IN OKRA (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench)
(DEPARTMET OF AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS B. A. COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE ANAND AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY ANAND, 2021) Vaniya Jyotika N; Dr. A. D. Kalola
The data on six different biometrical characters of fifty six genotypes/hybrids of okra were collected from Main Vegetable Research Station (MVRS), A.A.U., Anand during kharif season of the year 2018 for the present study entitled “Comparison of selection indices using different weights in okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench)”. The experiment was conducted in randomized block design with three replications. Six characters fruit yield per plant, plant height, number of internodes on main stem, fruit length, fruits per plant and fruit weight were used in the present study.

COMPARISON OF RANDOMIZED COMPLETE BLOCK DESIGN AND VARIANCE BALANCED DESIGN FOR DIALLEL CROSSES
(Department of Agricultural Statistics B. A. College of Agriculture Anand Agricultural University Anand, 2021) Popat Raj Chimanbhai; Dr. V. B. Darji
The present investigation was carried out with an aim to work out combining ability analysis of diallel crosses for randomized complete block design (RCBD) and variance balanced design (VBD), compare efficiency of all RCBDs with VBD and study deviations of general combining ability and specific combining ability effects for different environmental designs. Six brinjal parents viz., GOB 1, JBGR 1, KS 331, AB 15-06, AB 17-17 and AB 17-28 were crossed in diallel method IV fashion to form fifteen crosses. The crossing was carried out at the Main Vegetable Research Station during Late Kharif, 2019 and evaluation of crosses was carried out at the Agronomy Farm during Late Kharif, 2020. The fifteen crosses were transplanted in two environmental designs i.e., RCBD and VBD. Four cases were considered for RCBD based on number of replications included in the analysis. These are RCBD I with three replications, RCBD II, III and IV are with replications 1st and 2nd, 2nd and 3rd and 1st and 3rd, respectively. Observations for three traits viz., number of fruits per plant, fruit yield per plant (kg) and average fruit weight (g) were recorded.

COMPARISON OF SELECTION INDICES USING DIFFERENT WEIGHTS IN RICE (Oryza sativa L.)
(DEPARTMET OF AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS B. A. COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE ANAND AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY ANAND, 2021) Chauhan Vivek Ashwinbhai; Dr. A. N. Khokhar
The data on six different biometrical characters of thirty genotypes of rice were collected from Main Rice Research Station, Nawagam, A.A.U., Anand during kharif season of the year 2019 for the present study entitled “Comparison of selection indices using different weights in Rice (Oryza sativa L.)”. The experiment was conducted in randomized block design with two replications. Six characters i.e., grain yield, plant height, grains per panicle, test weight, harvest index and head rice recovery were used in the present study.

VARIANCE BALANCED DESIGN FOR DIALLEL CROSSES IN BRINJAL
(Department of Agricultural Statistics B. A. College of Agriculture Anand Agricultural University Anand, 2021) Charel Yogeshvarbhai Babubhai; Dr. V. B. Darji
The present investigation was carried out with an aim to work out combining ability of diallel crosses viz., general combining ability and specific combining ability effects tested in variance balanced design (VBD), six parents viz., GOB 1, JBGR 1, KS 331, AB 15-06, AB 17-17 and AB 17-28 were crossed as per diallel method IV to form fifteen crosses. The crossing was carried out at the Main Vegetable Research Station during Late Kharif, 2019 and evaluation of crosses was carried out at the Agronomy Farm during Late Kharif, 2020. The fifteen brinjal crosses were transplanted in six blocks each of size five in variance balanced design (VBD). Observations for twelve traits viz., days to 50 per cent flowering, plant height (cm), number of primary branches per plant, pedicel length (cm), fruit volume (cc), fruit length (cm), fruit girth (cm), average fruit weight (g), number of fruits per plant, fruit yield per plant (kg/plant), total soluble sugar (%), and total phenol (mg/100g) were recorded.

COMPARISON OF DEEP LEARNING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND STATISTICAL MODELS FOR PRICE FORECASTING OF BANANA IN GUJARAT
(DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS B. A. COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE ANAND AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY ANAND, 2021) Viniya Goswami; Prity Kumari
Price as well as other forecast viz., production, productivity, yield, weather data, etc. well in advance play a decisive role for governmental agencies in formulating policies regarding export-import, food grain procurement and distribution, price policies and for countering storage and other marketing issues and is also beneficial for farmers as it helps in pre-planning the activities and avert unwanted situations.

APPLICATION OF MULTIVARIATE TECHNIQUES FOR SELECTION OF COTTON GENOTYPES USING BIOMETRICAL CHARACTERS
(DEPARTMENT OF AGICULTURAL SATISTICS B. A. COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE ANAND AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY ANAND, 2021) Babariya Jay G.; Dr. D. J. Parmar
The data on eleven different biometrical characters of thirty genotypes of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum and Gossypium barbadense) were collected from RRS, AAU, Anand during kharif season of the year 2020 for the present study entitled “Application of multivariate techniques for selection of cotton genotypes using biometrical characters”. The experiment was conducted in randomized complete block design with three replications. The data on biometrical characters days to flowering, days to 50% boll bursting, plant height, number of monopodia per plant, number of sympodia per plant, number of bolls per plant, boll weight, ginning percentage, seed index, lint index and seed cotton yield per plant were subjected to ANOVA, multiple regression, phenotypic correlation, path analysis, principal component analysis, factor analysis and selection index. The present study was carried out to study the multivariate techniques for selection of cotton genotypes and to assess the biometrical characters for selection of genotypes of cotton.
