OPTIMIZATION OF MICRONUTRIENTS AND GROWTH REGULATORS ON SEED PRODUCTION AND SIZE GRADING ON SEED QUALITY IN PERENNIAL FODDER SORGHUM
(university of agricultural sciences Dharwad, 2015-02) ANUPAMA ANGADI; Dr. VINOD KUMAR
Field experiment was conducted to know the effect of micronutrients and growth regulators on growth, seed yield and quality of perennial fodder sorghum. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications during kharif of 2013-14 with the soil application as well as foliar application of (ZnSO4, FeSO4 and MgSO4) and also foliar application of growth regulators (GA3 and NAA) at MARS University of Agricultural Sciences Dharwad. The laboratory experiment on the standardization of sieve sizes and the studies on seed quality parameters in the laboratory of Seed Science and Technology. The results revealed that soil application of ZnSO4 @ 15 kg/ha at the time of sowing significantly increased the growth parameters like plant height and number of tillers per clump at 30, 60 and 90 DAS (27.93, 114.07, 295.87 cm; 8.20, 17.47 and 27.37 respectively.) as compared to control plant height (17.00, 77.43 and 187.17 cm; 4.27, 10.07 and 17.73 respectively). Similarly, yield parameters like number of panicles per clump (20.73), number of seeds per panicle (378.07), seed yield per hectare (508.67 kg), thousand seed weight (6.89 g) and seed quality parameters viz., germination (76.50%), root length (6.68 cm), shoot length (22.20 cm), seedling dry weight (6.73 mg), vigour index (2067) and field emergence (61.25%) also increased significantly with soil application of ZnSO4 @ 15 kg/ha as compared to control. The effect of screen size on quality of perennial fodder sorghum was found to increase with increase in sieve size. For grading perennial fodder sorghum seeds 1.4 mm size sieve is found to be optimum which registered 88.0 % seed recovery and 91.00 % germination with highest test weight (7.84 g), root length (6.30 cm), shoot length (20.05 cm) vigour index (2087), seedling dry weight (6.98 mg) and field emergence (82.25%) over ungraded.
