    Psychological wellbeing and interpersonal relationship of adolescents

    The study was conducted in Panchkula district of Haryana state. To draw the sample, govt senior secondary schools from two villages namely Sakedri and Raipurani from rural area and sector 6 and sector 7 from urban area were randomly selected. The final sample included 600 adolescents i.e., 300 adolescents from urban area and 300 adolescents from rural area. The instrument used for data collection were Ryff‘s Psychological wellbeing scale (1989), Mishra‘s Home Environment Scale (1983), Family Relationship Inventory (1987), Rigby and Slee‘ Peer Relationship Questionnaire (1993), Sharma and Chauhan‘ Parent Child Relationship Inventory (1980). Independent sample Z - test, correlation, percentages and frequencies were used to analyzed the data. The results showed that majority of the respondents fall in the age group of 15 to 16 years, belonged to small size families, fall in medium income category and had digital media exposure. Results regarding psychological wellbeing, majority of urban and rural adolescents were in low level on autonomy, environment mastery and self acceptance, moderate level in purpose in life and were high category in personal growth. Significant differences were observed in all aspects of psychological wellbeing regarding area, age, gender. Majority of the adolescents perceived good maternal acceptance, paternal acceptance and mother concentration and average father concentration, father avoidance and poor mother avoidance. Significant differences were observed in all aspects of family relationship on the basis of area, age, gender and education level. Majority of adolescents perceived low level in all the aspects of parent child relationship. Significant differences were also observed in all the aspects of parent child relationship s per area, age and gender. Maximum number of adolescents reported bullying, victimization and pro social behavior to a high level regarding peer relationship status. Significant differences were observed in all aspects of peer relationship of adolescents as per age. Significant correlated was found between psychological wellbeing with all the personal socio economic variables and home environment. Significant correlated was also found between interpersonal relationship with all the personal socio economic variables and home environment. Strategies were framed to improve psychological wellbeing and interpersonal relationship of adolescents.
