    Study on Role Performacne of Tribal Farm Women in Adoption of Maize Production Technology in Dahod District of Gujarat State

    Maize is the important crop of Dahod district. Farm women in tribal .area performing multiple activities which includes subsistence farming. raising livestock and other activities. Tribal farm women work longer and harder than the common women of other rural areas. Thus. women in tribal areas perform different activities to generate work and income for their family. It is therefore worthwhile to investigate the "ROLE PERFORMANCE OF TRIBAL FARM WOMEN IN ADOPTION OF MAIZE PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY IN DAHOD DISTRICT OF GUJARAT STATE" was planned with following specific objectives. I. To study the personal. socio-economic and psychological characteristics of the tribal farm women . - I 2. To study the. extent of .participation in decision making of tribal farm women in maize production technology. 3. To determine the sources of information utilized by the tribal farm women. 4. To study the knowledge level of tribal farm women in maize production technology. 5. To study the adoption of recommended maize production technology by the tribal farm women. 6. To ascertain the extent of role performance of tribal farm women in maize production technology. 7. To ascertain the relationship between personal, SOCIOeconomic and psychological characteristics of the tribal farm women and their role performance in adoption of maize production technology. 8. To identify the problems faced by tribal farm women and their suggestions to overcome the problems In maIze production· technology. The present study was undertaken in 12 villages of Dahod and Devgadhbaria talukas of Dahod district of Gujarat state. These talukas were selected purposively. Six villages were randomly· selected from each of the selected taluka. A total 11 I , number of 120 tribal farm women were selected by using simple random method. Keeping in view the objectives of study, the data were collected with the help oJ structured schedule by personal interview method . The statistical tools like percentage, mean, standard deviation, mean score and coefficient correlation were used to get proper an sWer for the specific objectives of the study. The important findi.\gs of the study are summarized as under: 1. Most (87.50 per cent) · of the tribal farm women were middle age group. -? . Most (81.67 per cent) of the tribal farm women had below district average yield of the maize crop . 3. Krishi .Vi gyan Kendra was major accessible source of information for tribal farm women . 4 . Most (75.83 per cent) of the tribal farm women had medium level of kn owledge and adoption about recommended maize production technology. 5. Most (88.34 per cent) of the tribal farm women had performed medium level of roles in maize production technology. . .. III (I. The variables like, family education, herd size, decision making, farm impleme.nts , social participation and yield were 'found significantly correlated with role performance of tribal farm women while, sources of information was found negative and significant correlated with role performance of tribal farm women ' in maize production technology. 7. Problems faced by tribal farm women in maize production technology were; illiteracy, unemployment during off seaso n , lack of transportation facilities , lack of knowledge and awareness. 8. Suggestion to overcome the problems in adoption of maize production technology by tribal farm women were; tribal farm women must be trained, extension workers should guide and keep well inform to tribal farm women In malze production technology, need of financial help , irrigation facility must be created and scheme of crop insurance in maize crop . +0

    Agricultur~ is a backbone of Indian .. conomy. It has a critical role to ,lay in country's econornic developrnent with ever increasing dernand to raise the ,roduction; hence, central and state government have been implanting various ~eveloprnental programmes, pilot projects for the welfare of farrners in the country. 'he nurnber of developrnental programmes, schemes like Cornrnunity Development 'ragrarnmes, National Extension Services, Training and Visits etc., were introduced com time to time. National Agricultural Technology Project (NA TP) was one of these Ihich was launched in the year 1998-99 in six states namely, Maharashtra, Bihar, lrrisa, Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. In Gujarat, eight districts lere covered under the ATMA project since November 2007. ATMA envisages paradigm shift from top to down to bottom up pproach in planning and implementation. As the farmer is focus for development in lis project, and hence its success totally depends upon the participation and erformance of the beneficiaries in the activities carried out by ATMA project. :eeping this view in mind, the present study was planned with following specific bjectives.
