EFFECT OF SPACINGS WITH DIFFERENT LEVELS OF NITROGEN ON GROWTH AND FLOWER PRODUCTION OF GAILLARDIA (Gaillardia pulcbella) Var. LORENZIANA
(DEPARTMENT OF HORTICULTURE, N. M COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE. GUJARAT AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY, 1989-09) Tosar, Mukeshkumar V.; Joehi, D.L.
ATI experimerlt wae conducted &t the Horticultur&l Rese&rch Fa.rm , N.M .College of Agriculture, Gujarat Agricultur&l Univereity, N&veari Ca!flpue, Naveari dur i ng the year 1988-89 t o study the effect of ep&cinge and r.1trogen levele OTI growth &nd flower production of gaill&rdi & (Gaill&rdia pulchella ) V&r. lorenzian& under the clayey eoils of South Gujarat. Twelve treatment combinatiorle consisting of two sp&cings viz. , 30 x 30 cm. (51 ) and 60 x 30 cm. (52 ) and six levels of nitrogen viz., 00 (NO) , 40 (N1 ), 80 (N2 ) , 120 (N3 ) , 160 (N4 ) and 200 (N&) Kg/hectare were tried in Randomized Block Design with factorial concept. All the t.reat.ment.s were replicat.ed four t.imes. Growth charactere zuch ae. e.pre&.d of plaflt I flumber of primary branches/plar.t. , number of second&ry branches/plar.t, number of leavee/plarlt , p larlt d r y weight were sigrlificarlt.ly irlfluerlced by the spac ing tr at . Wider 8pacir.g favoured the gro>.th of plarlt ae compared t o c l o eer 5pacirlg. Yield attributing characters such a 5 numbe r of flowers/plant, yield of flowere / pl!mt we re a l " o eigr.ificantly influenced by differerlt epa c i ng levele . Charactere like plant height , flower stalk length . numb er of days takerl for 50 per cent floweri r.g , d i amete r of f l o>1er , weight of 10 flowere and keeping quali t y of f l owere '"ere not sigrlificEmtly ir.fluenced by different epacing treatment". Number of flowere/plant were regietered maximum under wider "pacirlg of 60 x 30 cm. but the yield of flo>1ere orl hectare bas1e. was more urlder clOSer spacirlg . All the character" "uch ae p l ant height , epread of plar.t. number of primary and eecor.dary branchee and number of leavee/plant, plant dry weight, fl owe r e tal k length, number of daye taken for 50 per cerlt flowerir.g , diamet er of flower, weight of 10 flo>1ers , nUll'lber ar.d yiel d of flowere/plant, yield of flower/hectare and keep i ng qua l ity of flowers were sig(.ificantly influenced by d i ff e rent lev e l e of nitrogen. Application of nitrogen eignific a ntly increa s ed all t.he charactere except keeping quality of flowe r e wh ich reduced with increaeed nitrogen levele. Yield of flowere/ha was found to increaee with increaeing levele of nitrogen, however, there were no "igy, ificant differences amoy,g 200,160 and 120 Kg N/ha. The interaction effects for all the characters were not significant. Among the character" studied for their degree of association between flower yield (qfha) and yield attributes showed sigy,ificl1y,t and positive correll1tions. Howeve r , plar,t dry weight l1nd y,umber of primary branche,,/plant shO'.,ed positive correlatioY, with the flo'"er yield but wa" not "ignificl1T,t. From the economic point of view, "owing of gaillardia at 30 x 30 cm . spacing with the applicl1tion of nitrogen at 120 Kgfha. was found moet profitable. Con"iderir,g the rCBP-, all the nitr.ogen level" f ound profitable over control.
