Ultrasonographic Evaluation of Estrus, Pregnancy and Reproductive Problems in Cattle
(Department of Animal Reproduction, Gynaecology and Obstetrics College of Veterinary and Animal Science Rajasthan Agricultural University Bikaner – 334 001, 2008) VIJAY KUMAR; Dr. G.N. Purohit
Cows brought to the clinics for AI (n=140) and for treatment of reproductive problems (n=85) were examined by TRUS. The stage of estrus of cows brought for AI were determined and then inseminated. The day of insemination was taken as day 0 and pregnancy was diagnosed ultrasonographically at day 7, 14, 21, 28 and 35. The diagnoses at these days were compared with TRUS at day 60. The sensitivity (Se), specificity (Sp), positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) for pregnancy diagnosis by TRUS were calculated. There were no remarkable sonographic findings at day 7 and any conclusion on this day was not more than a rough guess.

Ultrasonographic studies on follicular dynamics in indigenous and crossbred cows
(Department of Animal Reproduction, Gynaecology and Obstetrics College of Veterinary and Animal Science Rajasthan Agricultural University Bikaner) Dr. J.S. MEHTA; MANISH KUMAR GARG
Ultrasonographic studies on ovarian follicular dynamic revealed that indigenous and crossbred cows were having 2 or 3 wave pattern with predominance of 2 wave pattern during spontaneous normal estrous cycle. In two wave pattern the first and second waves persisted for 14.6±0.9 to 15.3±1.0 and 9.75±0.8 to 10.7±1.5 days while in the three wave pattern first, second and third waves persisted for 14.3±0.6 to 15.4±0.6, 10.45±1.1 to 12.7±0.4 and 6.5±1.8 to 7.6±0.3 days, respectively, in both the types of cows. Significantly higher persistency (p<0.05) was recorded in the anovulatory wave/s than the ovulatory follicular wave in both the types of cows irrespective of 2 or 3 wave pattern.
