Animal husbandry is an integral component of agriculture supporting livelihood of more than two-thirds of the rural population. Livestock rearing is one of the most important economic activities in the rural areas providing stable and supplementary income round the year. Animals provide nutrient-rich food products, draught power, dung as organic manure and domestic fuel, hides & skin, and are a regular source of cash income for rural households (Birthal and Taneja, 2006).
