Materials and Methods: Using computer assisted semen analysis (CASA) technique, 26 ejaculates, collected from two Jersey bulls were analyzed for motility, head behaviour and swimming pattern of spermatozoa on dilution, pre-freeze and post-thaw stages of cryopreservation. French straw technique was employed for deep-freezing of semen using liquid nitrogen. Results: Equilibration of diluted semen at 5°C has significantly (P<0.01) reduced sperm motility, progressive motility, path velocity, and progressive velocity. Beat cross frequency was also affected significantly (P<0.05) by equilibration. Freezing and thawing processes drastically affected all the motility, velocity and head behaviour characteristics (P<0.01). Conclusion: CASA facilitate objective evaluation sperm motion characteristics. Adoption of CASA technique has the potential for improvements in evaluation of semen thereby the quality of frozen semen for fertility can be enhanced.ArticlesItem Open Access Computer Automated Analysis Of Morphometric Characteristics Of Epididymal Spermatozoa Of Spotted Deer(Axis Axis)(TANUVAS ; Chennai, 2006) Sundararaman, M.N.; Subramanian, K.S.; Meenakshisundaram, A.; Edwin, M. They are transmitted by ticks and affect a wide range of domestic and wild animals. Anaplasma marginale chiefly affects cattle and causes mortality as high as 80 per cent (Soulsby, 1968). Reports on concurrent infection of anaplasmosis and theileriosis in cattle are very scarce. This paper details one such incidence of concurrent Theileriosis and Anaplasmosis in crossbred cows .ArticleItem Open Access Dag-Like Sperm Defect and Acrosome Abnormalities Indicating Hereditary Sperm Defects in a Jersey Bull(2014-12) Sundararaman, M.N.; Gopinathan, A.; Subramanian, A.; TANUVASA study was undertaken on the consistent occurrence of sperm abnormalities in a Jersey bull maintained in an organized frozen semen production station. Data on semen collections and a representative ejaculate from the bull in question were collected to evaluate the semen characteristics. From the records it was observed that 74.5% of the ejaculates were rejected as fresh semen for poor semen quality especially in sperm morphology. The representative semen sample also revealed low sperm concentration, poor sperm motility and sperm abnormalities up to 82.4%, of which 65.2% of the spermatozoa showed ‘Dag-like’ defect. Majority of the spermatozoa in the ejaculate also showed abnormal acrosome status (75.1%). Consistent occurrence of high proportion of ‘Dag-like’ sperm defect and acrosome abnormalities suggested a genetic cause.ArticlesItem Open Access Effect Of Deep Freezing On Intracellular Enzyme Leakage In Jersey Bull Semen(TANUVAS ; Chennai, 1997) Sundararaman, M.N.; Thangaraju, P.; Edwin, M.
