ThesisItem Open Access EVALUATION AND GENETIC ANALYSIS IN VARIOUS GENOTYPES OF BALSAM (Impatiens balsamina L.)(Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, 2015) Sumit Pal; Prof. Anil K. SinghThe investigation entitled “Evaluation and genetic analysis in various genotypes of balsam (Impatiens balsamina L.)" was carried out to screen the germplasm suitable for Indian condition. The experiment carried out during rainy season of 2014 with 34 germplasm of balsam(16 genotype of Single whorled Impatiens balsamina and 18 genotypes of Double whorled Impatiens balsamina) were evaluated for variability studies. Based on overall performance of 16 single whorled balsam germplasm, BS 2, BS 5, BS 1 and BS 15 were found to be promising. Hence, these can be used as border plant and for bedding purpose. Among Double whorled balsam genotypes BD 2 and BD 4 perform better than other germplasm. Therefore, these germplasm can be utilized as bedding or pot purpose. Single whorled germplasm (16) were taken for genetic study. Among all the germplasm of single whorled balsam phenotypic and genotypic coefficient were higher for seed yield/ plant and number of flower/ plant. The heritability estimates were high for number of flowers/ plant, duration of flowering, number of secondary branches/ plant, 1000 seed weight and seed yield/ plant. High heritability with high genetic advance was observed for number of flower/ plant followed by flowering duration. Double whorled germplasm (18) were taken for genetic study. Among all the germplasm ofDouble whorled balsam phenotypic and genotypic coefficient were higher for seed yield/plant and number of primary branches/plant. The heritability estimates were higher for plant height, seed yield/plant, 1000 seed weight and number of flowers/plant. High heritability and high genetic advance was observed for number of flowers/plant followed by plant height.
