ArticleItem Open Access Gross and Histomorphology of the Skin of the Indian Chameleon (Chamaeleo zeylanicus)(2016-06) Nissar, Shazia; Basha, Sabiha Hyath; Ramesh, Geetha, et al.,; TANUVASThe skin of the Indian chameleon appeared thick, mottled with dorsal and ventral crest of spike from neck to tail. It was generally covered by non-overlapping keratinized scales. The various shapes of scales viz., conical, labial, tubercular and polygonal were observed. The skin consisted of epidermis and dermis microscopically. The epidermis was made up of stratified squamous epithelium, keratinized type. The stratum lucidum and stratum corneum were well developed. The dermis consisted of a superficial loose connective tissue with iridophores and a deep dense connective tissue with melanophores. No glands were observed. The presence of only two chromatophores viz., iriodophores and melanophores may be attributed to the limited color change in the Indian chameleon.ArticleItem Open Access Histomorphology of Parotid Salivary Gland in Sheep (Ovis aries)(2013-12) Muthukrishnan, S; Sabiha, H. Basha; Ramesh, Geetha, et al.,; TANUVASHistomorphology of parotid salivary gland was conducted in different prenatal age groups. In all the agegroups, the gland was surrounded by a connective tissue capsule that radiated to form septae which dividedthe glandular parenchyma into many lobes and lobules. The connective tissue had dense collagen, reticularand few elastic fibres alongwith large blood vessels and nerves. The parotid salivary gland was characterisedby purely serous acini having 4 to 6 pyramidal cells with distinct lumenArticleItem Open Access Prenatal study on ossification and growth of long bones in sheep foetus(2017-06) Nissar, Shazia; Basha, Sabiha Hyath; Ramesh, Geetha, et al.,; TANUVASThe present was conducted on twenty four sheep embryo and foetus ranging from 30 to 90 days of gestation. The study included appearances of ossification centers in forelimb and hind limb by using double staining method. The primary ossification center in different age groups 45, 52, 66 and 82 days. The total length (TL), ossified length (OL),ossified width (OW) of bones was studied. Total length (TL), ossified length (OL) and ossified width (OW) of forelimb and hind limb of different age of embryo and foetus showed significant difference.ArticleItem Open Access Vertebral heart score in indigenous dog breed of Tamil Nadu(2018) Bhargavi, S; Kannan, TA; Ramesh, Geetha, et al.,; TANUVASChippiparai dog which is a unique medium-sized, sight hound breed of Tirunelveli district of southern Tamil Nadu. In the present study, Vertebral heart score (VHS) was measured by thoracic radiographs of left and right lateral recumbency. A total of 12 dogs (young -6 and adult-6) were used for the study. The mean VHS on right lateral radiographs was found to be 8.63 ± 0.23 and 8.95 ± 0.13 in young and adult dogs respectively. Whereas, the mean VHS on left lateral radiographs was found to be 8.67 ± 0.33 and 8.97 ± 0.1 in young and adult dogs respectively. No significant differences could be found between the VHS of both young and adult Chippiparai dogs.
