ArticleItem Open Access COMPARATEVE STUDY OF SEROLOGICAL DIAGNOSTIC TESTS IN HYDATIDOSIS IN SHEEP(1989) Sekar, M; Appaji Rao, VN; Ramadass, P; Raghavan, N; TANUVASThe comparative study of the sensitivity and specificity of the agar gel precipitation (AGPT), Counter immuno electrophoresis (CIEP) Indirect haemagglutiiiation (IHA), indirect fluorescent antibody (IFAT), and bentonite fluculation tests (;3FT) to detect hydatidosis from the sera. of sheep, revealed that the CIEP was the most sensitive and specific followed by AGPT. The FAT, IHA and BFT were relatively inferior.ThesisItem Open Access Comparative Evaluation of Diagnostic Techniques in Detection of Rotavirus Infection in Calves(TANUVAS, 1991) Dhanaraj, V; TANUVAS; Ramadass, P; Raghavan, N; Padmanabhan, V.D.ThesisItem Open Access Comparative Evaluation of Diagnostic Techniques in Detection of Rotavirus Infection in Calves(TANUVAS, 1991) Dhanaraj, V; TANUVAS; Ramadass, P; Raghavan, N; Padmanabhan, V.D.ArticleItem Open Access Epidemiological Studies on Toxocara Canis Infection in Children in Madras City(TANUVAS, 1985) Gunaseelan, L; Ramadass, P; Raghavan, N; TANUVASA total of 527 soil samples collected from various public places in Madras City, and Toxocara eggs were recovered from 97 (18.41%) of them. Among different locations, parks showed the highest contamination rate of 46.43% with Toxocara eggs. Toxocara antibodies were detected in sera of 6 children of 82 children tested.ArticleItem Open Access A NOTE ON THE INCIDENCE SEROPREVALENCE OF AVIAN MYCOPLASMA IN BROILERS IN MADRAS CITY(1993) Saseendranath, MR; Ramakrishna, J; Raghavan, N; TANUVASAvian mycoplasmosis causes heavy economic losses to the poultry industry all over the world. The incidence has ‘become an important respiratory flock problem in chicken and turkey in lndia. (Pathak and Singh, 1959; Adlakha and Singh, 1962; Panda and Misra, 1963). Present study is to record the seroprevalence of avian respiratory mycoplasma infection in Madras city.ArticleItem Open Access PREVALENCE OF LEPTOSPIRAL ANTIBODIES IN ABORTING AND REPEAT BREEDING CATTLE(1986) Venugopal, K; Ratnam, S; Raghavan, N; TANUVASLeptospirosis has been recognised as one of the important by many Workers (Sane and Deshpande, 1965, Somasundara Rao and Surendran 1970).ArticleItem Open Access SEASONAL OCCURENCE OF RABIES IN MAN AND ANIMALS(1989) Sekar, M; Appaji Rao, VN; Raghavan, N; TANUVASThe monthly data of 11 years in respect of human and canine rabies in the city of Madras Was analysed to study the seasonal occurrence. The study revealed an increase in the trend from November to March as compared to the incidence in April to October. The trend in occurrence of rabies in dogs and human beings paralleled each other.ArticleItem Open Access SEASONAL OCCURRENCE OF RABIES IN MAN AND ANIMALS(1989) Sekar, M; Appaji Rao, VN; Raghavan, N; TANUVASThe monthly data of 11 years in respect of human and canine rabies in the city of Madras Was analysed to study the seasonal occurrence. For AGPT, conjunctival (CS) and nasal (NS) swab suspensions were used and tested against distemper antisera prepared in rabbits using Snyder Hill strain of canine distemper virus. A total of 504 samples were tested and 373 samples showed positive reactions with the production of single and / or double precipitation lines. Conjunctival smears from such positive cases were studied by IFAT and all the AGPT positive cases were found to be positive by IFAT. Few of the positive CS and NS materials were subjected to immuno-electrophoretic analysis. Out of sixty seven apparently healthy animals tested for CD, 25 showed positive reactions indicating 37.3% of subclinical infection in the tested population.ArticleItem Open Access Seroprevalence of infectious bursal disease (IBD) in parts of Tamil Nadu, India(1993) Karunakaran, K; Thanappapilldi, M; Raghavan, N; TANUVASSera samples of 400 apparently healthy broiler poultry from 23 commercial farms and 120 sera samples from commercial layer poultry [with specific lesions of infectious bursal disease (IBD) in the internal organs] were screened for the presence of IBD serotypes I, II and the variant strain by the agar gel immuno diffusion (AGID) test, employing standard antigens. Likewise the bursae, spleen and kidney specimen from 96 layer poultry with lesions suggestive of IBD were screened for the presence of IBD antigens employing standard antisera by the AGID test. The study revealed that antibodies to all three strains of IBD virus existed in 73.75% of sera from 400 broilers, while only serotype II antigen was detectable in tissues of the 96 layer birds that exhibited characteristic lesions of IBD. It was concluded that the serotype I vaccine did not protect the layer poultry against serotype II infection and the totally unvaccinated broiler poultry had suffered subclinical infection from all the three serotypes of IBD virus.ArticleItem Open Access Survey of Leptospirosis in Man and Animals by Microagglutination Lysis Test(TANUVAS, 1982) Basha, Mahaboob; Khader, T.G.Abdul; Rao, J.Ramakrishna; Raghavan, N; TANUVASThe investigation on sera samples of 63 canine, 59 bovine (cattle and buffaloes) and 13 human beings that suffered from pyrexia, hepatic and acute uninary disorders for the presence of L. ictero-haemorrhagiae and L. canicola antibodies by the microagglutination lysis test revealed that 39% of canines, 23.1% of the human and only 5% of buffaloes revealed leptospirosis.ArticleItem Open Access TREATMENT OF CANINE HOOKWORM WITH "TRODAX' (M & B)(1978) Abdul Khader, TG; Mathew, C. John; Ramdas, P; Raghavan, N; TANUVASOne of the major problems encountered in canine practice is the hook worm disease. The incidence of Ancylostoma caninum infection is estimated to be in the region of 50-60% in the local dogs.
