ThesisItem Embargo CHARACTERIZATION OF MAINTAINER AND RESTORER LINES FOR QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE TRAITS IN SUNFLOWER (Helianthus annuus L.)(2022-12-10) KARTHIK, N.; UMA, M. S.Morphological characterization of the any developed maintainer and restorer lines helps in developing the database based on which newly developed inbred lines can be identified and distinguished. With this background 121 maintainer, 17 restorer lines an five checks were characterized for 30 qualitative and evaluated for 10 quantitative traits during 2021 late rabi season. Maintainer and restorer lines exhibited wide range of variability for most of the morphological characters like hypocotyl pigmentation, leaf - size, shape, color, number, blistering, serration and orientation, petiole pigmentation, angle between lower part of petiole and stem, stem - pigmentation and hairiness , ray floret shape and number, disc floret- color, stigma pigmentation and pollen color, days to 50% flowering, bract shape and number, head - attitude, diameter and shape, branching type, plant height, seed - shape, coat color, stripes, color of stripes, mottling and length, hundred seed weight, oil content, hull content. Results of variability studies on these maintainer and restorer lines indicated existence of substantial variability for yield and yield attributing traits and autogamy percentage as evidenced by standardized range, PCV and GCV. Based on per se performance, top ten maintainer and five restorer lines were identified for each trait such as seed yield per plant, autogamy percentage, oil content and oil yield per plant. The maintainer lines were grouped into 12 and restorer lines into 5 clusters based on Kmeans clustering analysis. Identified maintainer and restorer lines to be further evaluated and can be utilized in hybrid development in sunflower.
