ArticleItem Open Access Medical management of submandibular abscess in a caprine kid: A case study(2021) Monica, G; Inbaraj, C; Vigneshwaran, S, et al.,; TANUVASA ten day old goat kid was presented with the history of swelling at the neck region since five days. On clinical examination, the temperature, pulse rate, heart rate and respiratory rate were in normal range. A soft swelling was evident at the left neck region. Fine needle aspiration using a 20G needle evidenced collection of pus within the cavity. The contents were then drained. Povidone Iodine solution was applied followed by administration of fluids, antibiotics and anti-histaminics for five days. The animal recovered uneventfully.ArticleItem Open Access Oestrus induced hypocalcaemia in a cross breed jersey cow: A case report(2021) Inbaraj, C; Monica, G; Vigneshwaran, S, et al.,; TANUVASA seven-year-old cross breed jersey cow was presented with a history of estrus followed by lateral recumbency. On observation cow was dull, depressed, anorectic, difficulty in defecation and urination, tail in a raised position with straining for defecation and respiratory distress. Physical examination revealed subnormal temperature (99.5o F), increased heart rate 80/min with low intensity of heart sound, dry muzzle and cool extremities. Rectal examination revealed the presence of mucus in the rectum. Cow was having mild bloody vaginal discharge and it was suspected as metestrus. The blood sample was showing low serum calcium of 4.2 mg/dL and it was confirmed as esturs induced hypocalcemia. The cow was treated with calcium borogluconate 250 ml I/V and 200 ml subcutaneously followed by oral drenching of calcium and the cow was recovered uneventfully.ArticleItem Open Access Rubber band syndrome in a pup: An unusual case report(2021) Vigneshwaran, S; Inbaraj, C; Monica, C; TANUVASRubber band syndrome is an uncommon condition observed in veterinary practice. A four month old pup was presented with history of limping of left fore-limb for past 20 days. On clinical examination, circumferential wound was observed just below the left fetlock with diffuse swelling above and below the wound. Thorough examination of wound revealed rubber band causing compression at the wound site. Under local anaesthesia the foreign body (rubber band) was removed and regular wound dressing was carried out at 24 hours interval. Proper wound care and timely surgical intervention made an uneventful recovery.
