Abstract
The present work was planed to study clinical manifestations, biochemical profile and histopathological changes of Tripakshi in alloxan induced diabetic rats and dogs. Glibenclamide was used as the other oral hypoglycemic drug. Diabetes was induced in Group-II, III and IV animals by alloxan monohydrate @ 180 mg/kg body weight, as 5 % aqueous solution in rats after overnight fasting and @ 70 mg/kg body weight, as 10 % aqueous solution in dogs after overnight fasting. Group-I animals were kept as healthy control, group-II animals as diabetic control, Group-II animals were treated with Tripakshi (@ 100 mg/kg body weight orally once a day in rats and @ 150 mg/kg body weight orally once a day in dogs) and Group-IV animals were treated with glibenclamide (@ 5 mg/kg body weight orally once a day in rats and dogs for first week and @ 10 mg/kg body weight orally twice a day in divided doses in dogs after on week).
