Abstract
An investigation was carried out at Department of Vegetable Science, College
of Horticulture, Bagalkot during rabi season of 2015-16. The experiment involving
fourteen chilli F1 hybrids with standard check, Arka Kyati was laid out in a
randomized complete block design with three replications to evaluate for growth,
yield, quality and resistance to diseases. The F1 hybrid DC-1512 performed better for
growth characters such as plant height (78.36 cm), number of primary branches (6.60)
and number of secondary branches (15.60), while the check F1 hybrid Arka Kyati
performed well for yield attributes such as average fruit weight (6.25 g) and total
green fruit yield (39.19 t/ha) and it was also resistant to murda complex and
moderately resistant to powdery mildew disease. Next best yielding hybrids were
DC-1512, (38.72 t/ha) and Arka Meghana (37.62 t/ha).With respect to quality
parameters, DC-1510, Arka Meghana and Arka Harita, recorded highest ascorbic acid
content (206.52 mg/100 g), capsaicin content (0.92 %) and chlorophyll content
(2.26 mg/100 g), respectively.
Correlation studies indicated that the number of fruits per plant, average fruit
weight, plant height, primary branches, plant spread, fruit diameter and dry matter
content had positive and significant correlation with fruit yield. Path studies
highlighted that plant spread (N-S), fruit diameter, average fruit weight, number of
fruits per plant had the highest positive direct effect on fruit yield per plant at both
genotypic and phenotypic levels. Finally it can be inferred that among the F1 hybrids,
Arka Kyati (check), DC-1512 and Arka Meghana were high yielding hybrids these
hybrids (DC-1512 and Arka Meghana) can be tested across the locations to know
their stability before recommending for commercial cultivation.
