Anand Agricultural University, Anand

Anand Agricultural University (AAU) was established in 2004 at Anand with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Act No.(Guj 5 of 2004) dated April 29, 2004. Caved out of the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU), the dream institution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. K. M. Munshi, the AAU was set up to provide support to the farming community in three facets namely education, research and extension activities in Agriculture, Horticulture Engineering, product Processing and Home Science. At present there seven Colleges, seventeen Research Centers and six Extension Education Institute working in nine districts of Gujarat namely Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Botad and Chhotaudepur AAU's activities have expanded to span newer commodity sectors such as soil health card, bio-diesel, medicinal plants apart from the mandatory ones like rice, maize, tobacco, vegetable crops, fruit crops, forage crops, animal breeding, nutrition and dairy products etc. the core of AAU's operating philosophy however, continues to create the partnership between the rural people and committed academic as the basic for sustainable rural development. In pursuing its various programmes AAU's overall mission is to promote sustainable growth and economic independence in rural society. AAU aims to do this through education, research and extension education. Thus, AAU works towards the empowerment of the farmers.

    The present study was carried out under ambient storage condition which is located at P. G. Laboratory, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand, Gujarat, India during the year Rabi 2017 to investigate the Effect of grading and post-harvest application of chemicals on quality and shelf life of custard apple (Annona squamosa L.) cv. Balanagar. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design with Factorial concept having ten treatment combinations. An experiment comprised with two factors (1) Grade – A and B (2) chemical levels Ascorbic acid (500 and 1000 mg/l) and KMnO4 (0.05 and 0.1 %) along with control. The treatments were repeated thrice. Periodical observations up to senescence of storage periods were taken.

    EFFECT OF POST HARVEST APPLICATION OF SOME CHEMICALS ON THE SHELF LIFE OF BER (Zizyphus mauritiana LAMK.) FRUITS

    An investigation entitled Effect of post harvest application of some chemicals on the shelf life of ber (Zizyphus mauritiana Lamk.) fruits. The experiment was conducted during the Rabi, 2015-16 at P. G. Laboratory, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand, Gujarat. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design with Factorial concept having sixteen treatment combinations, comprising of two variety of ber fruit viz., Gola and Umran and different chemical concentration of Ascorbic acid (100 and 150 mg/l), Cycocel (500, 750 and 1000 mg/l) and KMnO4 (0.05 and 0.1%) along with control. The treatments were repeated thrice. Periodic observations at initial, 3rd, 6th and 9th day of storage periods were taken.

    A field experiment was conducted at the Horticultural Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during the years 2015-16 and 2016-17 with a view to study the “Integrated nutrient management on growth, yield and quality of sapota [Manilkara achras (Mill.) Forsberg] cv. Kalipatti”. The experiment consists of thirteen treatments which comprising organic fertilizers (FYM, vermicompost and castor cake) and biofertilizers (AAU Azotobacter, AAU PSB, AAU KMB and AAU bio NPK). The experiment was laid out in completely block design and replicated thrice. The soil of the experimental site was sandy loam.

    An investigation entitled “Influence of storage period and growing media on seed germination, growth and development of acid lime seedlings (Citrus aurantifolia Swingle) cv. Kagzi” was conducted during the year Kharif - 2016 at Horticultural Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand. Treatments comprised four levels of storage period (S) viz., S1- 0 day after seed extraction, S2- 15 days after seed extraction, S3- 30 days after seed extraction and S4- 45 days after seed extraction with three levels of growing media (M) viz., M1- Soil + Vermicompost (1:1), M2- Soil + Cocopeat (1:1) and M3- Soil + FYM (1:1). The experiment was laid out in a Completely Randomized Design (Factorial) with twelve treatment combinations and repeated thrice.

    The present investigation on “Effect of irradiation and cycocel on fruit quality and shelf life of guava (Psidium guajava L.) cv. Allahabad Safeda” was carried out during winter season of the year 2016 at college of Food Processing Technology and Bio energy and Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand. The experiment was laid out in completely randomized block design with factorial concept with three repetitions. There were twelve treatment combinations of irradiation dose (I0 -0.00, I1 -0.75, I2 1.0 and I3 -1.25 kGy) and cycocel (C0- control, C1-cycocel @ 500 mg/l and C2 cycocel @ 750 mg/l).

    The present investigation on entitled “Effect of growth regulators and chemical on flowering, yield and quality of acid lime (citrus aurantifolia Swingle) cv. Kagzi” was carried out at the orchard of Horticultural Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during the year 2014-15 & 2015-16. The experiment was laid out in Factorial Randomized Block Design consisting of two factors with three replications. There were eighteen treatments comprised of six spray treatments of growth regulators and chemical i.e. water spray (C0), GA3 50 mg/l (C1), KNO3 2% (C2), GA3 25 mg/l + KNO3 1% (C3), GA3 50 mg/l + KNO3 2% (C4) and Cycocel 500 mg/l (C5) as well as three time of application i.e. 2nd week of September (T1), 4th week of September (T2) and 2nd week of October (T3).
