Effect of Strychnos potatroum, Acacia arabica and tolbutamide were studied in rabbits rendered diabetic by intravenous administration of alloxan at a dose rate of 120mg./Kg body weight. 2. On the seventh day after alloxan administration, Strychnos potatorum seed powder (0.5gm.jkg), Acacia arabica bark decoction (20 ml/Kg) and tolbutamide (Rastinon 0.25gm/Kg) were administered by stomach tube to diabetic rabbits fasted for 18 hours. Blood samples were collected at 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 hours. 3. Strychnos potatorum, Acacia arabica and tolbutamide produced significant reduction in blood glucose level as compared to the control, maximum reduction being two hours after administration. In the first hour Strychnos potatorum produced a rise in blood sugar level and subsequently a fall below the initial level.EnglishVeterinary ScienceSTUDIES ON THE HYPOGLYCAEMIC EFFECTS OF STRYCHNOS POTATORUM AND ACACIA ARABICA ON ALLOXAN DIABETES IN RABBITSCheironArticle
