The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replication and seventeen genotypes of brinjal to estimate the mean performance, genetic variability, genetic heritability, genetic advance, correlation and path analysis and to identify the best genotypes for Chhattisgarh plain. The analysis of variance indicated that the mean sum of square due to genotypes were significant for all the characters i.e. yield per hectare, number of flower per cluster, number of fruit per, cluster, yield per plant, fruit girth, fruit length, number of primary branch per plant, average fruit per cluster, plant height, days to maturity, days to first flowering, average fruit weight, days to 50% flowering, fruit stalk length, and number of fruit per plant. The earliest flowering was observed for 2016/BRLVAR-8. highest plant height was observed in 2014/BRLVAR-4. maximum number of primary branches per plant was observed in 2016/BRLVAR-4. maximum number of fruits per cluster was observed in Kashi Taru, longest fruit length was observed in 2014/BRLVAR-4, highest fruit weight was observed in 2016/BRLVAR-3, minimum number of day to maturity is found in 2015/BRLVAR-5, maximum number of fruits per plant was found in 2015/BRLVAR-1, maximum fruit yield per plant was found in 2016/BRLVAR-3, highest marketable fruit yield per hectare (q) was observed in 2016/BRLVAR-3. High magnitude of phenotypic as well as genotypic coefficient of variations were recorded for traits viz. yield per hectare (q), number of fruit per plant, yield per plant (kg), number of flower per cluster, fruit girth (cm), fruit length (cm). The highest heritability coupled with highest genetic advance were observed for characters viz., fruit length, number of fruit per plant, days to 50% flowering , fruit girth, days to maturity, yield per hectare, yield per plant, fruit stalk length, days to first flowering, average fruit weight. Path coefficient analysis revealed that average fruit weight, expressed highest positive direct effect on fruit yield per plant followed by yield per hectare , number of fruits per plant, days to 50% flowering, plant height, days to maturity, fruit stalk length.en-USnullSTUDIES ON CORRELATION AND PATH COEFFICIENT ANALYSIS FOR FRUIT YIELD AND ITS COMPONENT CHARACTERS IN BRINJAL (Solanum melongena L.)Thesis
