Data was collected from a sample of 90 farmers from 10 villages of Chintamani and Gauribidanur taluks using pre-tested interview schedule through personal interview method. The study showed that the total cost incurred for Cotton Seed Production was Rs.2,33,209 per hectare. The average gross return realized per hectare was Rs.5,59,534. The Cost of Production per kg was Rs.166.92, Net return over variable cost per kg was Rs.252.92 and Net Return over total cost per kg was Rs.233.59. The return per rupee of expenditure was Rs.2.40 in Cotton Seed production under contract farming. The variables such as extension contact, extension participation, mass media exposure and organizational participation had showed positive change due to contract farming in Cotton Seed Production. Cent per cent of the cotton seed farmers entered contract farming with the company in written agreement and received payments through cheque. It was observed that the cent per cent of the farms were visited by the supervisors of the company during pollination emasculation and harvesting stage. The major production problem was non availability of skilled labours, the major marketing problem was irregular payments by the company and major environmental problem was non availability of required quantity of water in bore wells during summer.
