Acephate, a water-soluble insecticide, belongs to the phosphoramidothioate group of organophosphate insecticides. It has moderate persistence with residual systemic activity of about 10-15 days. It is being widely used for protection of vegetables and fruits due to its activity against lepidopterans and aphids. As this insecticide is in use as crop protectant, it is likely to cause indirect exposure to animals and humans through contaminated feed, soil and water.
