The experiment was laid out in Randomised Block Design with nine treatments and three replications. Treatments T1 Bentazone 48% SL (460 g) T2Bentazone 48% SL (690 g), T3Bentazone 48% SL (799 g), T4Bentazone 48% SL (920 g),T5MCPA – Amine salt 40% WSC (121 g), T6Halosulfuron Methyl 75% WG (67.5 g), T72,4- D Dimethyl Amine salt 58% SL (500 g), T8Weed free check and T9Untreated controlwere assigned. With advancement in crop growth stages all the applied treatments showed decreasing trend of weed count and weed dry matter. Among herbicides T4Bentazone 48% SL (920 g) exhibited minimum weed population, lesser weed dry matter and maximum WCE over other treatments and found at par with T3Bentazone 48% SL (799 g). With effective weed control and lower weed density, T4Bentazone 48% SL (920 g) resulted in attending higher growth parameters viz. plant height, no. of leaves per plant, LAI and plant dry matter accumulation.Yield attributing characters as well as grain and stover yields were significantly highest in Bentazone 48% SL (920 g)as weed index was found lowest. As compared to other varieties, the treatment Bentazone 48% SL (920 g)achieved the highest no. of grains per cob, cob length and cob girth whereas MCPA – Amine salt 40% WSC (121 g)showed the minimum yield attributing characters. Harvest index was highest in Bentazone 48% SL (920 g). These indicated outstanding bioefficacyof Bentazone 48% SL (920 g). Increased uptake of NPK by maize was achieved under weed free condition. Highest gross return (137,612₹ haˉ1), highest net return (96,823₹ haˉ1) and highest benefit:cost ratio (2.37) was obtained at T4 Bentazone 48% SL (920 g).As a result, the weed control treatment of Bentazone 48% SL (920g)produced the best results.EnglishEvaluation of bioefficacy of Bentazone 48% SL against weeds in maize (Zea mays L.)Thesis
