Conventional analysis of loads is unable to justify the characterization of non-linear loads as it does not examine precisely the distortion power and true power factor. With the increasing energy demand and contemplating its sustainable use, energy efficient non-linear loads are now replacing their well established linear counterparts due to which our distribution network is now transitioning into a non-linear network. With the introduction of new IEEE 1459 Std. (2010) there is a need for identification of small household harmonic producing loads and characterize them accordingly. This paper describes a data acquisition technique using NI cDAQ-9178 programmable automation controller (PAC) chassis as well as NI 9225 and NI 9227 voltage and current acquisition modules respectively. The idea of data acquisition is build up in form of a LabVIEW project which has multiple VI and each VI share the variables in real-time in synchronization with the main VI so that a common base for energy billing, compensation and detection of load can be built on the same platform.ennullMeasurement based characterization of single phase non-linear loads and their current compensationThesis
