The virus causes mainly respiratory, reproductive and renal diseases in chicken. Despite intensive vaccination efforts using attenuated live and killed vaccines to prevent the disease, outbreaks of IB still occur frequently because of infections with emerging field strains that differ serologically from vaccine strains.
