Rice is a plant of Asian origin. Rice crop is known to suffer from many biotic and abiotic stresses. Rice in general and irrigated rice in particular, is the target of attack by more than 100 species of insects and pathogenic organisms that known to destabilize the yields. The sheath rot has been prevailing in Middle Gujarat and South Gujarat since 1985 and increasing day by day. In some years, it caused major quantitative and qualitative losses.
