World aquaculture production has shown a tremendous growth from less than 1 million tonnes per year in the early 195Oâ s to 52.5 million tonnes in 2008 which valued at US$98.4billion (FAO, 2010). Per capita supply of fish through aquaculture has also increased from just 0.7 kg in 1970 to 7.8 kg in 2006 (FAO, 2009). India is the second largest aquaculture producer in the world next to China.
