Therefore, we are not in position to satisfy the daily requirement of an animal. Hydroponic maize feeding fulfills the partial nutrient requirement of animals. Feeding of hydroponic maize shows beneficial effect on growth performance of animals and it could be economically beneficial to farmers. However, abundant green fodder is available in India during monsoon but in summer or drought condition, it declines. Hydroponic fodder required less quantity water and it is economically beneficial and it is easily solved the green fodder problem in summer or drought condition. Maximum growth rate (weight gain), Body measurement (chest girth, body length and body height) of crossbred calves which received hydroponic green maize fodder showed growth statistically significant effect over other treatments. Economic point of view the cost of feed stuff with hydroponic green maize is greater than control group since the gain in B.W. brings higher returns to the farmers. It is concluded that growing crossbred calves can be efficiently raised on feeding hydroponic green maize fodder.The study entitled was "FEEDING VALUE OF HYDROPONIC GREEN FODDER UNDER CONTROLLED AND FIELD CONDITIONS ON CALVES.” conducted for period of 90 days. Twenty crossbred calves were divided into five groups on the nearness of age and weight. Five feeding treatment were studied namely T1- Dry roughages ad lib + Green roughages + Concentrate, T2 - Dry roughages ad lib + Green roughages(30% green maize of field condition + 70% green fodder) + Concentrate, T3 - Dry roughages ad lib + Green roughages(30% hydroponic green maize of controlled condition +70% green fodder) + Concentrate, T4 - Dry roughages ad lib + Green roughages(40% green maize of field condition + 60% green fodder) + Concentrate and T5 - Dry roughages ad lib + Green roughages(40%hydroponic green maize of controlled condition + 60% green fodder) + Concentrate to fulfill feed requirement of crossbred calves in all treatments. It was observed that hydroponic green maize was containing 14.10, 4.07, 75.12,7.17 and 1.80 per cent, CP, EE, NFE, CF and Total ash respectively. The daily DM intake was affected significantly over the experimental period. The crossbred calves from T5 groups consumed more DM than that of T1, T2, T3 and T4 groups. The average daily intake was 2.40, 2.53, 2.64, 2.55 and 2.70 kg/day/calves in T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5 groups respectively. All the crossbred calves exhibited satisfactory growth rate, the average daily body weight gain was 0.213, 0.260, 0.324, 0.266 and 0.361 kg per day in T1, T2, T3, T4 and T5 treatment respectively. However, the per kg gain in body weight was higher in T5treatment. It was observed from over all experimental results, that the treatment T5 showed better and desirable result as compared with T1, T2, T3 and T4 treatments. Therefore, feeding cost was desirable.
