Ahttps://krishikosh.egranth.ac.in/handle/1/5810198561Line × Tester analysis was carried out in Opium Poppy (Papaver somniferum L.) to study the combining ability and heterosis for seed yield and attributing characters. The experimental material comprised of 77 entries including 54 hybrids along with 21 parents and 2 checks viz., Chetak Aphim and JOP-540. A complete set of 77 genotypes were planted in randomized block design and replicated thrice at Instructional farm, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur during Rabi 2022-2023. The analysis of variance revealed the presence of considerable variability among parents and crosses for the characters studied. Among lines, UOP-145, UOP- 70, UOP-93 and UOP-179 were the best performing lines for yield and attributing characters. Among testers, UOP-79 and UOP-80 exhibited good performance for all the traits. The cross UOP-78 × UOP-20 exhibited significant positive economic heterosis, maximum relative heterosis and heterobeltiosis for seed yield per plant over the best check Chetak Aphim. Combining ability analysis revealed that the magnitude of sca variance were higher than gca variance for all the characters studied, emphasizing preponderance of non additive gene action. UOP-154 was found to be a good general combiner for seed yield per plant, harvest index for seed yield, capsule husk yield per plant, diameter of main capsule, capsule size, number of stigmatic rays per capsule and number of plant height. Line UOP-88 was observed to be a good general combiner for capsule size and number of effective capsules per plant and UOP-95 showed good gca for days to maturity and peduncle length. Among testers, UOP-20 was found to be good general combiner for plant height, UOP-30 for capsule husk yield per plant and UOP-80 for diameter of main capsule The significant positive sca effects for different characters were exhibited by many crosses and for seed yield per plant was exhibited by six crosses, of which cross UOP-78 × UOP-20 possessed high positive specific combining effects, high per se performance and significant economic heterosis, emphasizing preponderance of non additive gene action. Thus, this cross may be exploited for hybrid vigour or may be advanced for varietal development.EnglishHeterosis and Combining Ability in Opium Poppy [Papaver somniferum (L.)]Thesis
